  •Promises To Reposition Cocoa Business Ondo State Governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, SAN, on Tuesday, inaugurated an Ultra Modern 15,000 tones Cocoa processing factory, the Johnvents Industries Nigeria Ltd, with a promise to join hands with stakeholders to reposition and boost cocoa business in the state. Speaking during the inauguration, Akeredolu reiterated the commitment of the present administration to boost cocoa production saying the state will soon attain its position as the hub of cocoa production in the country. Akeredolu who disclosed that the cocoa revolution had kicked off in the state, said that over 10,000 hectares of land had been cleared at Jugbere in Owo Local Government Area solely for the cultivation of cocoa. The Federal Ministry of Mines and Steel Development in collaboration with the Oyo State Government plan to conduct an airborne geophysical survey of mineral resources in the state. Mr Kaka Imam, Director of Geophysics Department, Nigerian Geological Survey Agency (NGSA) announced the plan in Ibadan on behalf of Mr Olamilekan Adegbite, Minister of Mines and Steel Development. He urged residents not to panic or become apprehensive when they hear loud noise emitted by the survey aircraft which would fly at low altitudes and in abnormal movement. Imam explained that public awareness became necessary to forestall misinformation that might cause undue tension in some communities, particularly in the face of current insecurity across the country. He said it was necessary to penetrate Oyo State and gather geological information that might lead to mineral discoveries there despite its difficult terrain. Oyo state government on Friday awarded the construction of 76.7km Iseyin-Fapote-Ogbomosho road for N43.1billion. The award was approved at the 14th State Executive Council meeting which held at the Executive Council Chamber of the Governor’s Office, Agodi Secretariat, Ibadan and presided over by Governor Seyi Makinde. The meeting which started around 3PM ended at about 6PM. Briefing the press after the meeting, the state commissioner for Public Works and Transport, Prof Dahud Sangodoyin said the project would be paid through direct payment by the government. Accompanied at the briefing by his counterpart at the Ministry of Information, Culture and Tourism, Dr Wasiu Olatunbosun, Prof Sangodoyin said the project is to be delivered in 13months.   Oyo State Governor, ‘Seyi Makinde, declared that by 2023, his administration would have spent close to N70 Billion to build road infrastructure to connect all the five administrative zones of the state. The governor stated this in Iseyin, during the sod-turning ceremony for the newly-established Faculty of Agriculture and Natural Sciences of the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Ogbomoso.     He maintained that his government would complete the 38-kilometre Oyo-Iseyin Road, the 46-kilometre Saki-Ogbooro-Igboho Road and the recently awarded 76.7-kilometre Iseyin-Fapote-Ogbomoso Road in record time, the same way it did with the 68-kilometre Moniya-Iseyin Road. The court of Appeal sitting in Ibadan, on Thursday discharged and acquitted the former Governor of Oyo State, Otunba Adebayo Alao-Akala of the over the N11.5 billion corruption charges leveled against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). The court further discharged and acquitted a former deputy Chief Whip of the Senate, Senator Hosea Agboola, who is currently the Chairman of the Governor’s Advisory Council to Governor Seyi Makinde, and a business mogul, Mr Femi Babalola, popularly known as Jogor. Agboola served as Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters during Alao-Akala’s tenure as the governor of Oyo State between 2007 and 2011 while Babalola owns an engineering firm, Pentagon Engineering Services, that executed some contracts during the former governor’s administration.   About 80 persons have been arrested during the week in Ibadan by the State’s Environmental Task Force for violating the environmental laws. This was revealed by the Commissioner for Environment and Natural Resources, Mr. Abiodun Oni who revealed that the Task Team apprehended offenders at Gate, Aleshinloye, Eleyele, Sabo, Apata, Iwo-road, Ojoo, Moniya, U.I-Agbowo, Sango and General Gas areas in Ibadan. In their separate judgements, Chairmen of the State’s Environmental Protection Tribunal, Barr. Saheed Ganiyu and Barr. Kunle Abimbola disclosed that the eighty persons were caught dumping refuse in unauthorized places, hence they are guilty of violating the environmental laws of the state.
