Oyo State Governor, ‘Seyi Makinde, has expressed his sadness over the demise of the Chief Imam of Oyo Town, Imam Sheikh Mashood Abdul Ganiyy Adebayo Ajokidero III, saying that the death was a huge loss to the people of the state. The governor expressed his condolences to the Muslim Ummah in Oyo Town and Oyo State over the loss, declaring that the late Imam would be greatly missed. A statement by the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Mr. Taiwo Adisa, quoted the governor as describing the departing Islamic cleric as a peacemaker, who worked peacefully with the Oyo Mesi, and the sons, and daugters of Oyo as well as all segments of the society. A team of four researchers from the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Ogbomoso in Oyo State, have won N89.1 million as a research grant from the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund), under the 2021 TETFund National Research Fund (NRF) Intervention. The Principal Assistant Registrar, Public and Alumni Relations, LAUTECH, Olalekan Fadeyi, made this known in a statement in Ogbomoso. Mr Fadeyi said that one of the researchers was Samuel Taiwo, a former Provost, College of Health Sciences, LAUTECH, and professor of the Department of Medical Microbiology and Parasitology, whose project was titled: “Evaluation of Loop-mediated Isothermal Amplification assay Detection of Active Tuberculosis in Nigeria”.   Oyo State Governor, ‘Seyi Makinde, on Monday, swore in Justice Iyabo Yerima as the Acting Chief Judge of the State. The swearing-in of the new acting Chief Judge, Justice Yerima, is coming few days after Justice Muntar Abimbola bowed out of the bench. At the brief ceremony, which held at the Executive Chamber, Secretariat, Ibadan, the governor stated that his administration will give the Acting CJ necessary support to carry out her duty diligently. He added that his administration will continue to work with all other arms of government to ensure the judicial system is modernised.

Attempts by elements of Organised Criminal Groups to use various disingenuous modes of concealment to import consignments of illicit substances into Nigeria and export same to the United Kingdom, and United Arab Emirate through the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, MMIA, Ikeja and Tincan seaport in Lagos have been thwarted by operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA.          Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu The Ondo State Government has approved the payment of 2023 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) fees for students in public schools in the state. A total sum of N523,948,400 was approved by the governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu,SAN, CON. This followed a memo sent to the governor by the State Ministry of Education, Science and Technology and signed by the Commissioner, Pastor Femi Agagu. The memo was dated December 29th, 2022. In approving the memo, Governor Akeredolu instructed that the sum be “paid directly to WAEC to be receipted for”. According to the memo, a total number of 28,946 students in Public Secondary Schools across the state will benefit from the gesture.               Lagos-Ibadan Expressway The Federal Government has ordered a temporary suspension of the ongoing construction works on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway to ease the travelling experience for holidaymakers returning to their destinations after the festive season. Recall that the construction company, Julius Berger on Tuesday returned to the site to continue construction works between the popular Long Bridge and Kara bus stop on the Lagos-bound carriageway after leaving in December 2022. The contractors’ return has resultant gridlock in the axis, with commuters groaning on Thursday.  Independent National Electoral Commission INEC Oyo State has begun the devolution of the Collection of Permanent Voters’ Cards (PVCs) to 351 Registration Areas/ Ward Collation Centers in all the 33 INEC Local Government Area Offices ahead of preparations towards the forthcoming General Election in the State. In a statement by the Resident Electoral Commissioner in the State, Dr. Adeniran Rahmon Tella, noted that the exercise commenced on Friday 6th January to Sunday 15th January 2023 from 9 am to 3 pm daily, including Saturdays and Sundays. Dr. Tella stated further that the exercise was for all eligible valid registrants, those that applied for the replacement of lost, damaged or defaced PVCs and those that registered prior to the 2019 General Election and were yet to collect their cards. Five persons were killed and another four  critically injured at a new year party organized by group of friends in Akinmonrin , Afijio Local Government Area of Oyo State. The tragedy struck when a member of the group drove his car into the dancing floor, and knocked down about 10 persons. At the time he drove the car angrily into the dancing floor, three of his friends were with him in the car. He was initially accused of driving recklessly on high speed to the venue of the party. The reckless driving caught the attention of other friends who had earlier settled down at the party. They reportedly stood up, walked up to him and scolded him seriously on the grounds that cars are not toys that should been taken with levity because such act could lead to accident on the grounds of mechanical faults or human errors.
