  The Executive Governor of Oyo state, Engr Seyi Makinde has appointed Alhaji Bashiru Ajibade as a member of the State Advisory Council. The governor also appointed Oluwaseun Akintola Philip-Idiok, Victor Dideoluwa Olojede and Friday Oluwaseun as Special Adviser on Youth Affairs, Senior Special Assistant on Student Affairs and Senior Special Assistant on Project Delivery respectively. The appointments were contained in separate letters dated October 27, 2023, and signed by the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Otunba Segun Ogunwuyi. Makinde congratulated the new appointees and charged them to discharge their duties with absolute loyalty, dedication and diligence. The appointments are with immediate effect.

The Executive Governor of Oyo state, Engr ‘Seyi Makinde, has approved the installation of 48 chieftaincy title holders, including three Royal Highnesses, one coronet-wearing Obas and 44 Baales across various local governments in the state. The approval was granted by the governor following a memo raised by the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters. A statement by the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, Honourable Olusegun Olayiwola, said the approval became imperative following the vacancies created in the various stools as a result of the demise of the previous holders of the respective titles. He said that the administrative processes of filling the 48 chieftaincy titles had been concluded in accordance with the provision of the Chiefs Law of Oyo State, Cap.28 Section 15 (a&b) and that there was no court case or restraining order on any of the approved chieftaincy titles.

                  Oba Ghandi Afolabi Olaoye The Oyo State Government has filed an appeal at the Court of Appeal, Ibadan Judicial Division, to challenge a verdict by a High Court in Ogbomoso that overturned the selection and installation of the new Soun of Ogbomosoland, Oba Ghandi Olaoye. The government has also applied for a stay of execution until the appeal is heard and decided upon. OGBOMOSO INFO had reported that the state government announced Olaoye as the new Soun and made him King, on Friday, September 8, 2023.   The Supreme Court on Thursday upheld the Appeal Court’s ruling on 25 percent of votes in Abuja needed to win the presidential election. The Presidential Election Petitions Tribunal had declared that the Federal Capital Territory does not hold a higher status than other States in the country. Section 134 (1) and (2) of the 1999 Constitution of Nigeria (as amended) stipulates that a presidential candidate must attain or score a majority of votes cast in a presidential election, where two or more candidates are involved, and at least 25% in two-thirds of the 36 States and FCT to meet the constitutional requirement to be declared as duly elected as President of Nigeria. Justice Okoro noted that scoring 25% of votes in the FCT is not a mandatory requirement for declaration of a candidate as the winner of presidential election.

  A palace source has revealed the next move of Oba Ghandi Afolabi Olaoye concerning his sack by an Oyo State High Court as the new Soun of Ogbomoso. Yesterday, the appointment of Oba Ghandi Olaoye was overturned by the Oyo State High Court sitting in Ogbomoso. Recalls that the Oyo State Government, on the 8th of September, 2023, announced Pastor Ghandi Olaoye as the new Soun and made him king. Elias Adeojo   The Oyo State Government, on Wednesday, appealed to residents of the State to take ownership of public infrastructure, saying it was adopting measures to address the challenge of water facility vandalism across the State.    The Executive Chairman, Oyo State Water Corporation, Hon.   Workers have threatened to stage a sit-at-home protest at the end of October if the state government fails to meet its demands for a wage increase of N35,000 for workers and N25,000 for pensioners. Chairman of Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) in the state, Kayode Martins issued the threat on behalf of workers after a congress held at the NLC State Secretariat. He said the demand for wage awards is in line with the federal government economic relief package for workers to cushion the effect of economic hardship caused by fuel subsidy removal. In his remark, the Secretary of the Nigerian Union of Pensioners (NUP), Oyo state chapter, Segun Abatan explained that though Governor Seyi Makinde has proven to show empathy for workers’ welfare but he must tend to their demands this time around or expect a public protest from pensioners.

  The Oyo State House of Assembly has passed into law the Land Use Charge Bill 2023. This came after consideration of the bill clause by clause on the floor of the house. On road construction and road rehabilitation in the rural communities, the lawmakers lamented that council authorities often sublet equipment meant for road projects, leading to the equipment being vandalized in the process. The lawmakers bared their minds in separate contributions at the House plenary, where the House Majority Leader, Hon. Sanjo Adedoyin had brought a motion on the need to urgently order Local Governments and LCDAs to embark on massive rehabilitation of rural road networks. Hon. Adedoyin had lamented that despite the council areas having equipment such as bulldozers, graders and pay loaders, many rural roads are still in deplorable condition, thus making transportation of farm produce to the urban areas a difficult task.

  Oyo state Governor Seyi Makinde has appointed a retired military officer, Major Adesagba Adekoya as the chairman of the Oyo State Road Traffic Management Authority (OYRTMA). The appointment, which was contained in a letter signed by the Chief of Staff to the governor, Otunba Segun Ogunwuyi, is with effect from October 23, 2023.                     Governor Seyi Makinde  The Executive Governor of Oyo state, Engr. Seyi Makinde has signed the executive orders for the establishment of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism and the protection of mining communities. Governor Makinde while signing the executive orders at the Conference Room of Governor's Office, Secretariat, Ibadan, noted that mining is on the exclusive list of the Federal Government. He said the State however has a responsibility to protect the mining communities from insecurity and undue exploitation. Governor Makinde also hinted that the State ministry of Information and Orientation would now have civic orientation duties added to its functions. He also declared that the newly established Ministry of Culture and Tourism which was created from the Ministry of Information & Orientation, is in line with the State roadmap for sustainable development 2023-2027.

    The Oyo State Government has evacuated Three Hundred and Fifty-Nine (359) illegal structures and shanties shielding its public primary and secondary school premises within the Ibadan metropolis.   The Commissioner for Environment and Natural Resources, Architect Abdulmojeed Mogbonjubola, during the exercise today, reiterated the government's commitment to bring sanity to school premises in the State.    Arc. Mogbonjubola, about two months ago, directed the issuance of eviction letters, which were dispatched through the principals and heads of the affected schools.    The eviction notices were also directly issued to owners of the illegal shops, shanties, and structures, which were acknowledged by them.    Arc.   Chief Magistrate Court 1, Iwo Road Ibadan, presided over by Magistrate Taiwo Oladiran has on Friday, convicted Adeleke Ronke Mary of the Oyo State Ministry of Lands, to a year imprisonment for official corruption. The Oyo State Anti-Corruption Agency (OYACA) secured the conviction of Adeleke after it had investigated a case submitted against her by a victim from whom she dubiously collected the sum of Six Hundred Thousand Naira (#600,000.00). The court also ordered that the convict to refund the said money to the victim within a month.
