God will fix Nigeria – Tinubu

  President Bola Tinubu on Thursday expressed hope that God would help him fix Nigeria. Tinubu disclosed this during a thank you visit to the Awujale of Ijebuland, Oba Sikiru Adetona, in Ijebu Ode, Ogun State. He said the people of Ogun State voted for him at a crucial time, hence he returned to say thank you. In his remarks, Tinubu said, “I started work from the very first day. God will fix Nigeria. I want to say thank you to all the chiefs here. Thank you for how you have taken me, and may you live long to see a prosperous Nigeria.” Also speaking, the Awujale urged Nigerians to be patient because Tinubu will take the country to the promised land. He prayed that God will give Tinubu good health to deliver on his promises.

Super Eagles rise in Latest FIFA Ranking

  Nigeria’s Super Eagles moved up one place in the latest rankings released by the Federation of International Football Association (FIFA) on Friday morning. The three-time African champions moved from the 40th to 39th position. Jose Peseiro’s side, however, remain sixth in Africa. The slight improvement was a result of the team’s 3-2 victory against the Leone Stars of Sierra Leone this month, to secure a place at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations. The Atlas Lions of Morocco remain the number one team on the continent, with the Terangha Lions of Senegal and Carthage Eagles of Tunisia in second and third position, respectively. The Desert Foxes of Algeria and Pharaohs of Egypt complete the top five teams.

  Veteran actress in the Yoruba film industry, Sidikat Odukanwi, popularly known as Iyabo Oko is dead. Iyabo Oko's death was announced by her daughter, Bisi Aisha, via social media on Wednesday evening. The 61-year-old actress is said to have battled ill health for a while now.               High Chief Rashidi Ladoja Former Governor of Oyo State and Otun Olubadan of Ibadanland, High Chief Rashidi Ladoja, expressed his views on Wednesday regarding the recent elevation of 11 High Chiefs to the rank of beaded crown Oba. Ladoja made it clear that he is solely interested in the crown of the Olubadan of Ibadanland and has no desire for any other crown. Speaking to journalists at his private residence in Bodija, Ibadan, the state capital, Ladoja stated, “When I initially entered the race to become the Olubadan, my sole focus was on attaining the position of Olubadan. Sallah: FG suspends Lagos-Ibadan Expressway Construction Work

  The Federal Government has announced the suspension of work on the ongoing reconstruction of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.  In a statement released by the Federal Controller of Works, Lagos, Engr. (Mrs) Olukorede Kesha, it was noted that the suspension is in a bid to reduce gridlock during the Sallah celebration. Court remands Prankstar Trinity Guy, Minor's Parents In Agodi Prison

  A Magistrate's Court in Ibadan, which is hearing the allegations made by the police against Prankster, Abdullahi Adisa popularly known as Trinity Guy, has ordered that the suspect be kept in Agodi correctional facility until next month. Trinity Guy was charged to court by the police for allegedly sexualising a minor in a viral 38-second video where he asked a female minor to describe his genitals. Earlier, the suspect's lawyer, Oludare Adebayo, had pleaded with the court to release his client. However, the magistrate judge, P.O Adetuyibi, rejected his plea on the grounds that a case has been opened in the government office which is looking at the justice system based in Oyo state regarding the suspect. Similarly, the court also ordered that the mother and father of the ten-year-old child that appears in a viral video with the Trinity Guy should be detained in prison. The Prankster earlier said that he had an agreement with the minor’s parent before shooting the skit.

6 Dead, 15 Injured In Oyo-Ogbomoso Road Crash

  No fewer than six persons have been confirmed dead, while 15 others sustained varying degrees of injuries at Sekona on the Ogbomoso-Odo-Oba road in the Ogo Oluwa Local Government Area of Oyo State. The crash, involving a commercial bus and a trailer, occurred on Sunday evening. Also, an Okada rider lost his life, on Monday morning, after he ran into a stationary vehicle at Gbede, very close to Ote, on the Ogbomoso-Ilorin road in Surulere Local Government Area of the state. Witnesses told the newsmen that the victims were all male adults, and their corpses had been deposited at the Ladoke Akintola Teaching Hospital mortuary while the injured ones were taken to Bowen University Teaching Hospital, Ogbomoso, for medical attention. Investigations by revealed that the commercial bus with 21 passengers on board and the trailer were heading North before the incident happened.                             Bola Tinubu The Federal Government has declared Wednesday, June 28 and Thursday, June 29 as Eid-El-Kabir holidays. This was contained in a statement by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Interior, Oluwatoyin Akinlade on Monday.  “The Federal Government has declared Wednesday, June 28th and Thursday, June 29th 2023 Public Holidays in commemoration of this year’s Eid-el-Kabir celebration and heartily felicitates with the Muslim Ummah at home and in the diaspora,” the statement read. “We are hopeful that the prayers and sacrifices that come with this great celebration, as well as the message of Eid-el-Kabir, will bring about peace, unity and progress in Nigeria”, the statement read.

  Oyo state House of Assembly has scheduled screening of commissioner-nominees forwarded to the Assembly by Governor Seyi Makinde for Tuesday, 27th of June, 2023. Reading the message from the Executive on Thursday at the plenary, Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Adebo Ogundoyin directed the commissioner-nominees to submit their credentials to the office of the clerk before 5pm, Friday 23rd of June, 2023. FG immortalises Maryam Babangida

  The Federal Government has immortalised the late Mrs Maryam Babangida by renaming the National Centre for Women Development (NCWD) after her. This is in recognition of the impacts of her projects on women, especially those in rural areas. Mrs Monilola Udoh, the Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Women Affairs, disclosed this on Tuesday while addressing newsmen in Abuja. Udoh said that the bill for the change of name was passed by the Senate on March 29, 2023, while the House of Representatives passed the same on April 5, 2023. Police PRO calls for arrest of Ibadan-based Prankster, Trinity Guy

  The Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, has called for the arrest of a popular skit maker, Trinity Guy over extreme prank video. Trinity Guy is one Nigerian skit maker who is quite controversial for his extreme pranks that leave many people, especially his victims in distress. Adejobi, who had previously warned skit makers who use pranks for a living to regulate them because they endanger Nigerian lives, posted the video on his Instagram account on Monday, calling for  his arrest. Oyo Enrolls 60% of Target Residents in Basic Healthcare Scheme

    The Oyo State Health Insurance Agency (OYSHIA) says it has enrolled over 60% of targeted enrollees into the Basic Health Care Provision Fund (BHCPF) scheme.   This was revealed by the Executive Secretary of Oyo State Health Insurance Agency (OYSHIA), Dr. Sola Akande, on Tuesday, in Ibadan.   In addition, Dr. Akande said the Agency has reviewed upwards the number of enrollees for BHCPF, to accommodate more residents of the State.   According to him, "the Basic Health Care Provision Fund (BHCPF) is financed through 1% of Federal Government consolidated revenue given to States that have fulfilled certain laid down guidelines."   Akande said, the Basic Health Care Provision Fund was initially aimed at capturing 37,500 indigenes that include the aged, children (under 5), physically challenged and pregnant women across the 33 local government areas.   Dr. Akande added that so far, about 22,018 lives have been enrolled into the scheme.    T...

Grammy creates categories for Afrobeat, Fuji for 2024 Award

  Organisers of Grammy Awards, Recording Academy has created a category for ‘Best African Music Performance.’ The category was among the three new ones announced by the academy in a statement released via its website on Tuesday. The other two newly created categories are Best Pop Dance Recording and Best Alternative Jazz Album. According to the statement, the new categories will receive nominations beginning with next year’s show. The Grammy “Best African Music Performance” category is open to both contemporary and traditional music from the African continent including Afrobeats, Afro-pop, Amapiano, High Life, Fuji etc.

He said he named his daughters, Imade and Hailey after his late mother, stressing that his second daughter, Hailey is a replica of his mom.                     Godswill Akpabio A former Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Godswill Akpabio, has emerged as the Senate President of the 10th Assembly. Akpabio had defeated Zamfara West Senator-elect, Abdul’aziz Yari, after scoring 63 votes while Yari scored 46 votes.in the election held on Tuesday morning.  Senator Jibrin Barau also emerged as the Deputy Senate President of the Assembly after his nomination was the only one put forward by former governor of Ebonyi State The Clerk of the National Assembly, Sani Tambuwal, is said to be presiding over the session.

                      Adewale Egbedun Osun State House of Assembly on Tuesday elected a 38-year-old member representing Odo-Otin State Constituency, Adewale Egbedun, as the Speaker of the Assembly. He emerged as the speaker after being nominated by Ibrahim Abiola of Irewole/Isokan constituency and seconded by Areoye Samuel. Egbedun, who is a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), was elected on Tuesday during the inaugural sitting of the 8th Assembly after being nominated by Ibrahim Abiola of Irewole/Isokan constituency and seconded by Areoye Samuel, another member. Also, Akinyode Oyewusi from Ife North Constituency was elected as the Deputy Speaker of the House. The Clerk of the House, Simeon Amusan, who presided over the inaugural sitting, was said to have administered the oath of office on both of them.
