COVID-19: Makinde inspects Oyo’s borders with neighbouring states |Ogbomoso Info

Oyo State governor, Engineer Seyi Makinde, on Thursday, embarked on an inspection tour of the state’s borders with neighbouring states, declaring that the state government will make security officers manning the border points comfortable. The governor also stated that the state will ensure strict compliance with the inter-state lockdown order agreed upon by governors of the South-West states to contain the spread of the novel Coronavirus. A statement signed by the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Mr. Taiwo Adisa, quoted the governor as saying that though compliance with the order has not been 100 per cent, the security officers monitoring compliance had been doing their best. The Executive Governor of Oyo State, Engr. Seyi Makinde has announced that the state will begin COVID-19 tests in other zones of the state next week. Makinde, who is also the head of the COVID-19 taskforce in the state, disclosed this in his COVID-19 update to the people of the state on Wednesday morning. According to him, the decision to begin tests in other zones of the state is in a bid to ramp up the testing of COVID-19 samples. The tests conducted on COVID-19 samples in the state so far were carried out Ibadan, the state capital, which is just one of the five zones in the state. “Also, in a bid to continue ramping up testing, from next week, we will be moving to other zones in the state to conduct tests. Details of the schedule will be provided in due course,”the governor said. The four zones the government is set to commence COVID-19 tests next week includes Ibarapa, Oke Ogun, Ogbomoso and Oyo.

Oyo State government, on Tuesday, approved the commencement of the Light-Up Oyo State project, which is to cover 70 roads and 223.42 kilometres across the five geopolitical zones of the state. The state’s Commissioner for Public Works, Infrastructure and Transport, Prof. Rapheal Afonja, who made the disclosure while briefing newsmen at the end of the state’s Executive Council meeting, said that 70 roads across the five zones of the state will be captured in the second phase of the Light-Up Oyo Project. He also added that the state’s executive council has approved the award of the contract for the rehabilitation of two dumpsites in Ibadan as part of the new Solid Waste Management Architecture launched by Governor Seyi Makinde recently. Oyo State has recorded its second death from the novel coronavirus. The state Governor, Engineer Seyi Makinde made the announcement on Sunday via a post on Twitter. The governor stated that the victim was one of the three coronavirus cases confirmed in the state yesterday. He said: “Sadly, one of the new COVID-19 cases announced yesterday, passed away this morning. “This brings the number of COVID-19 related deaths in the state to two. So, there are currently eight active cases in Oyo State.” There are 21 confirmed cases in the state, out of which 1 was transferred to Lagos, 2 persons died, 10 people were discharged after testing negative twice, while there are 8 active cases in the state.

Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has given an update of the Covid -19 in the state, saying that there are three new cases in the state. Makinde revealed this on his twitter page around 11:45pm on Saturday April 25, 2020. He said, “The Covid-19 confirmation test for three suspected cases from the University College Hospital, Ibadan, came back positive, today. So, there are currently nine active cases in Oyo State”. The Governor further revealed that a total of 610 samples have been collected so far in the state adding, “453 of these samples were collected at the COVID-19 drive-through/walk-through testing centre at Adamasingba Stadium. Oyo State governor, Engineer Seyi Makinde, disclosed on Saturday, that no fewer than 120,000 households and groups will benefit from the palliatives being planned by the state. Governor Makinde, who addressed newsmen at the end of a meeting of the state’s Covid-19 Task Force, said that 90,000 households identified as poorest of the poor and another 30,000 vulnerable households across Oyo State will benefit from the palliatives. According to him, the said palliatives would help in cushioning the harsh economic effects of the novel coronavirus in the state. The Oyo state government has rejected and returned a total of 1,800 bags of pest-infested rice back to the the federal government. Dr Debo Akande, the executive adviser to Governor Seyi Makinde on agribusiness, disclosed this at the state secretariat, Ibadan, the state capital. He said the decision was reached after a series of inspections done by the food security committee of the Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic task force. A patient of coronavirus has reportedly died at the University College Hospital, Ibadan, Oyo state, Oyo governor confirmed. Governor Makinde in his Oyo State Covid-19 Task Force Update (April 22, 2020), said a suspected case after tested of the virus came back Positive but patient already died before the result came out on Wednesday. The new positive result made Oyo total cases to be 17, as Makinde gave the state current active cases as five. “The COVID-19 confirmation test for one suspected case came back POSITIVE. The patient died at the University College Hospital, Ibadan, before his result came out today.
