Makinde Presents N294bn Budget To Oyo Assembly

  Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has presented a budget of N294 billion to the state House of Assembly. Makinde made the budget presentation before the lawmakers in Ibadan on Wednesday. The budget is for the 2022 fiscal year. He christened the budget as the budget of growth and opportunities. Makinde, while speaking further, added that his administration will inject N156,000,136,971 into the economy of the state. According to the governor, a sum of N138,516,308,136 would be spent on recurrent expenditure. He maintained that one of the major projects that would be carried out in the year 2022 is the 110km Ibadan Circular Road. LAUTECH Doctors, Others Withdraw Services Over Assault

  Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Ogbomosho Teaching Hospital chapter of the Medical and Dental Consultants’ Association of Nigeria (MDCAN), has condemned persistent assaults on its members, by some members of the host community. A statement signed by its Chairman, Dr. Michael Olamoyegun and Secretary, Dr. Ayobami Alabi, and made available to reporters yesterday, said members of the association were withdrawing their services over an attack on a doctor by a politician, on Sunday. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the group withdrew their services, pending the arrest of the politician and the provision of adequate security for its members.     Oyo state government has charged the people of Oyo State to keep tolerating each other and exercise a little more patience with the government as the state is gradually transiting from poverty to prosperity. Cholera outbreak: Oyo Govt Launches Prevention Measures

  Oyo State government, on Friday, reassured the residents of the state of its preparedness to prevent the outbreak of cholera in the nooks and crannies of the state. Speaking at the press conference held at the Ministry of Information, Culture and Tourism, the permanent secretary, Ministry of Health, Dr. Mufutau Ayoola, implored the people to ensure they properly dispose of their faeces and refuse, while improving on their personal hygiene henceforth. The British Council has announced the winners of funding for the inaugural Innovation for African Universities programme (IAU), 2021. Team LAUTECH is a member of one of the 24 Network Partners who were program through a rigorous selection process from over 50 Applications. The team to which LAUTECH belongs consists of Durban University of Technology, South Africa, Sheffield Hallam University, UK, Innovate Durban, South Africa, LAUTECH, Nigeria and Kisii University, Kenya. CVR: INEC Registers 19,135 Persons in Oyo

  About Nineteen Thousand, One Hundred and Thirty-five people (19,135) have reportedly completed their registration in Oyo State as part of the nationwide continuous voter registration exercise which is in its first phase in the State. This was made known by Barr. Mutiu Agboke, the Resident Electoral Commissioner in Oyo State, as he said that the exercise has been suspended temporarily and is to resume on October 3. Agboke said the suspension became necessary to give time for complaints and other corrections that may come as a result of the registration exercise which cuts across the 33 Local Government Areas of the State. Also, within the period, INEC will publish the register of voters for public scrutiny. Oyo Records Highest Number of Applicants In 2021 UTME

  The Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has announced that Oyo State had the highest number of applicants in the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) for 2021. According to data published by Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Oyo State had 82,521 applicants followed by Osun and Ogun states. It was gathered that three states together also had more candidates than the combined figure of the 10 states that had the least candidates. Applicants from the three states totalled 227,706 of the country’s 1,351,215 applicants that sat for this year’s UTME, one of the prerequisites for any Nigerian student seeking higher education. Following Oyo, Osun was behind with 74,214; and Ogun, 70,971 with the three states making up for an equivalent of 16 per cent of this year’s UTME applicants. Soun's Daughter Becomes First African Woman To Win Distinguished Africanist Award

  P rofessor Oyeronke Oyewumi Professor Oyeronke Oyewumi, a Nigerian gender scholar, has been selected by the African Studies Association as the winner of its 2021 Distinguished Africanist Award.  Prof. Oyewumi, daughter of the Soun of Ogbomoso, a paramount ruler in Oyo State, is the first African woman to win the award since its inception. She is a professor of sociology at Stony Brook University, New York. In a letter, Stony Brook congratulated Prof. Oyewumi on her achievement.  “It is a great pleasure to inform you that the African Studies Association has selected you as the winner of the 2021 Distinguished Africanist Award,” the letter said.  The award includes a cash gift of $500, a plaque, and a lifetime membership to the ASA. Their names are contained in a letter containing ten Commissioner nominees forwarded to the Oyo State House of Assembly by the Governor for consideration and approval.   A former member of Oyo state House of Assembly, Hon Amos Ayoola is dead. Ayoola died this morning during a brief illness at the University College Hospital (UCH)Ibadan. Hon Ayoola represented Ogbomoso North state constituency in the 7th Oyo State House of Assembly between 2011 and 2015 on the platform of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP. 692 New Education Officers Resume Duties In Oyo

  Lagos State Government has warned quacks and unqualified applicants to steer clear of the on-going health workers recruitment exercise being conducted by the Health Service Commission or risk arrest and possible jail term. LAUTECH Professor, Olajire Slumps, Dies in Ogbomoso

A professor at the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Ogbomoso, Abass Olajire is dead. It was gathered that the don died few minutes after he slumped. Our correspondent gathered that Olajire slumped during a Jummat service at a mosque in Ogbomoso. Traders, Farmers Stranded as Flood Submerges Ogbomoso-Igbeti Road

  Traders, farmers and other commuters plying the Ogbomoso-Igbeti road were on Saturday stranded as the road was submerged by flood. This was as a result of heavy rain witnessed on Friday. OGBOMOSOINFO reports that the road is the only link road between Igbeti in Oke Ogun geo-political zone of the state and Ogbomoso in Ogbomoso geo-political zone of the state. Ex-Lawmaker, 6 Others Arraigned Over Alleged Murder Threats, Forgery In Ogbomoso

   Oyo State Commissioner of Police, Ngozi Onadeko The Oyo State Police Command has arraigned seven men before a Chief Magistrate’s Court sitting in Ogbomoso for offences bordering on conspiracy, forgery, publication of false documents and threats to murder a traditional chieftain. Oyo to Reopen Schools 20th September

This was contained in a circular dated 7th September 2021, showing details of the academic calendar of the year and signed by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, Mrs. A. B. Atere. The first term of the 2021/2022 academic session is billed to start on 20th September 2021, with a mid-term break of two days between 4th and 5th November, 2021 and will last for 13 weeks. LAUTECH: Oyetola Give Reasons Why Osun Opted Out of Joint Ownership with Oyo

  Governor Adegboyega Oyetola of Osun has explained why the state opted out of the joint ownership of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Ogbomoso. Oyetola spoke in Abuja while fielding questions at NAN Forum, a special interview programme of the News Agency of Nigeria. He said the decision was reached after his government weighed the options and discovered that it was more profitable to invest in its own new university than continue with the joint ownership with Oyo State.
