Eid el-Fitr: FG declares Friday, Monday public holiday

Nigeria’s government has declared Friday and Monday, as Public Holiday to mark this year’s Eid el-Fitr celebration. The Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola, made the declaration on behalf of the Federal Government, as he congratulated all Muslims for the successful completion of the holy month of Ramadan. The minister urged all Muslims to imbibe and practice the virtues of kindness, love, tolerance, peace, self-denial, sacrifice and good neighbourliness, as exemplified by the Holy Prophet Muhammad. “The self-restrain, self-denial, sacrifice and deep spiritual consciousness that accompanied the fasting period should not end but be maintained and improved upon, in order to be a better person and true worshipper”, the minister advised all Muslims. LAUTECH bans students from bringing cars to campus

 Students of Ladoke Akintola University, Ogbomoso in Oyo State, have been barred from driving or bringing cars to the campus. The management of the institution also banned the use of tinted vehicles by staff members and students, adding that learner permits must be placed on the vehicles of beginner drivers. Unauthorized vehicles parked at various locations in the university are to be taken out with immediate effect. Registrar of the institution, Kayode Ogunleye said the decision was reached at a management meeting held on Wednesday, April 19. We’re Not Recruiting Yet- Oyo Govt. Vows to Prosecute Anyone Behind Fraudulent List of ‘Recruited Teachers’

  The Oyo State Government has vowed to prosecute those it described as undesirable elements, who perpetrate recruitment scams with the sole intent of defrauding innocent public.   This is coming on the heels of a purported list circulating on social media claiming the Oyo State Universal Basic Education Board, OYOSUBEB, has started its recruitment process.   In a statement on Tuesday, the Executive Chairman, Oyo State Universal Basic Education Board (OYOSUBEB), Dr. Nureni Aderemi Adeniran, advised the public to be vigilant and never deal with scammers who pose as recruitment agents for the Board.   Adeniran said the management has also begun moves to identify those perpetrating these fraudulent activities, promising that when caught they will be handed over to appropriate quarters.   He also cautioned job-seekers saying, “please shun any purported list, circulating on the social media claiming we are recruiting”.   The statement added that OYOSUBEB wo...

Nigeria’s Inflation rate Hits 22.04%

Nigeria’s inflation rate has risen to 22.04% in March 2023, from 21.91% recorded in February. This is according to the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS)’ Consumer Price Index (CPI) report released on Saturday. “Looking at the trend, the March 2023 inflation rate showed an increase of 0.13% points when compared to February 2023 headline inflation rate”, the report stated. “On a year-on-year basis, the headline inflation rate was 6.13% points higher compared to the rate recorded in March 2022 which was 15.92%. “This shows that the headline inflation rate (year-on-year basis) increased in March 2023 when compared to the same month in the preceding year (i.e., March 2022).” The Bureau disclosed that the increase in the food index was driven by increases in prices of oil and fat, bread and cereals, potatoes, yam and other tubers, Fish, fruits, meat, vegetables, and spirits.

6 Varsities to Get 18Bn Funds- TETFUND

The Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) has revealed that N18 billion will be disbursed to six public universities under its Special High Impact Intervention. The Executive Secretary, TETFund, Sunday Echono, said this during a press briefing on Thursday. The TETFUND boss further noted that N3 billion will be given to six selected varsities, N1 billion each to six polytechnics and six colleges of education across the country. He added that over 95 per cent of the 2023 Intervention Budget N320 billion total TETFund’s disbursement of 2023 would go directly to beneficiary tertiary institutions. The remaining five per cent of the allocation, according to Echono, would be used for staff salaries and allowances, project monitoring and zonal capital projects.

Adamawa Supplementary Election: INEC Distributes Sensitive Materials

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Adamawa has distributed sensitive materials for the conduct of Governorship and State Assembly supplementary elections in 20 affected local government areas. The newsmen stated that the commission had declared the governorship election held on March 18 in the state as inconclusive due to some irregularities According to the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Mr Hudu Ari , on Friday, said the elections would be conducted in 69 polling units with 36,935 registered voters. He also stated that the sensitive materials include the BVAS and other essential materials. Ari also said the affected LGAs for the conduct of the state assembly elections include Girei, Gombi, Numan and Toungo. No Religion, Ethnicity Question in Census Questionnaire — Commission

The National Population Commission(NPC) has clarified that the census questionnaire has no column for religion and ethnicity. The commission made the clarification on Friday in Kano when the National Publicity Committee on the 2023 Population and Housing Census paid an advocacy visit to Nigerian Television Authority, Kano. It was gathered that the visit was led by Alhaji Lai Mohammed, the Chairman of the committee and Minister of Information and Culture, represented by the Director General of the National Orientation Agency, Dr Garba Abari. According to a member of the committee, Dr Isiaka Yahaya, said the commission was not interested in such data that Nigerians would be asked questions on their faith and ethnic affiliation. INEC Set to Conduct Supplementary Election in Oyo Saturday

  The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Oyo State is to conduct Supplementary Elections into two Federal Constituencies in the State. They are Oluyole and Ibadan North East/ Ibadan South East on Saturday 15th April 2023. EFCC Deploys 100 Operatives in Kano, Others | Ogbomoso Info

The Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC), says it has deployed 100 armed operatives to combat vote buying in Kano, Katsina and Jigawa during Saturday’s supplementary elections in the states. According to the Kano Zonal Commander of EFCC, Mr Farouk Dogondaji, disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Kano on Friday. He said  they  have deployed 20 personnel to monitor the conduct of the state Assembly elections in Kafur, Kankara in Katsina state. Rivers Police Arrest Child Trafficking Syndicate, Rescue Two Children

The Rivers State Police Command said its operatives have arrested a child trafficking syndicate which included three women operating within and outside the state. The command stated that the feat followed a complaint lodged by a woman in Ubima Community in the Ikwerre Local government Area of the state that her child was missing. Illegal Fees: OYOSUBEB Pardons Erring Head Teachers

One Killed As Police Repel Armed Robbery Gang in Ogun

The Ogun State Police Command says its men have successfully repelled an armed robbery gang that invaded the popular phone market in Okelewo area of Abeokuta, the state capital. Police spokesperson, Abimbola Oyeyemi, in a statement on Wednesday, disclosed that one phone trader, Dayo Bankole, who was shot by the robbers later died in the hospital, while one of the suspects was arrested. The suspected armed robbery gang numbering about eight allegedly stormed the market popularly known as Tarmarc at about 5:30 p.m, shooting sporadically and carting away expensive phones. Oyeyemi further narrated that on sighting the policemen, the robbers engaged them in a gun battle, but due to the superior fire power of the policemen, the criminals took to their heels. According to the police, items recovered from the robbers include one double barrel locally made gun and assorted criminal charms.

Buhari Approves Free Trade Zone Status For Ekiti Knowledge Zone

President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the request of the Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Otunba Adeniyi Adebayo, seeking a free zone status for Ekiti Knowledge Zone. This is contained in a statement issued on Tuesday in Abuja by Mr Ifedayo Sayo, Special Assistant to the Minister. According to Sayo, the approval was conveyed via a letter titled: “RE: Recommendation for Approval and Designation of Free Trade Zone Status in Ekiti Knowledge Zone (EKZ)." The zone is situated on 208.949 hectares located on Ado-Ijan Road, Ado Ekiti, Ekiti State. He said that the letter addressed to the minister was signed by the Chief of Staff to the President, Prof. Ibrahim Gambari.

Zulum Extends Borno Teachers' Retirement Age By 5 Years

Governor Babagana Zulum of Borno has extended the retirement age of teachers in the state by five years. This is contained in a circular from the Borno State Teaching Service Board signed by the Permanent Secretary, Malam Yusuf Garga. ”The attention of all teachers is hereby drawn to the fact that Gov. Babagana Zulum, has approved the extension of years of service of all teachers in Borno from 35 to 40 and from 60 to 65 by age whichever comes first. "All interested teachers willing to enjoy this are expected to write to the board through thier principals expressing thier interest and attach medical certificate of fitness from any government hospital,” the circular reads. President Muhammadu Buhari assented to four Bills recently passed by the National Assembly including Harmonised Retirement Age for Teachers in Nigeria Act, 2022.

Oba Samuel Olayode Adeyemi, The Olorasoko of Isoko, Ogbomoso south joins his ancestors. His demise was announced by one of his son Adesoye Kayode Olayode, who mournfully wrote: “It is hard now to say adieu baba mi, confidant and mentor. I have not recovered from the loss of my mum when you left again… I will miss you. Goodbye Oba Samuel Olayode Adeyemi Alasoko of Isoko, Ogbomoso.” The Oba died on Sunday 9th April at 87 The monarch who was born on December 6, 1936 at Makolokin a suburb area in Ifo Area of Ogun State. He was installed by the late Oba Olajide Olayode the Soun of Ogbomoso in October 1967.

  Former President Olusegun Obasanjo said the incoming administration must explore all avenues at ending ethnic division that emanated from the 2023 general elections. Obasanjo stated this while speaking at a conference, themed, “From Elections to Governance and Performance,” organised by Nextier and the Ibadan School of Governance and Public Policy in Abuja on Thursday. The Abiola Ajimobi Technical University, Ibadan, has disclosed that preparations are at an advanced stage to commence postgraduate programmes. Lagos Deploys New Technology To Address Parking Challenge

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu‘s led government of Lagos State has introduced a new technology that will enhance coordinated parking operations in the state.  The General Manager of Lagos State Parking Authority (LASPA), Adebisi Adelabu, confirmed this on Tuesday, noting that the technology will facilitate a seamless parking experience across the metropolis. According to him, LASPA partnered with ARCA Payment Ltd. to develop the parking payment application to improve the overall parking system by ensuring a seamless transaction process for permits, registration, and inquiry, among others.
