The Oyo State Police Command have arrested and paraded about 207 suspects for various crimes in 2023. The state Commissioner of Police, Adebola Hamzat disclosed this on Friday, while parading another 38 crime suspects allegedly involved in various degrees of criminal activities at various locations a few days to the new year at the command headquarters in Ibadan, the state capital. Hamzat said 50 stolen vehicles and 46 motorcycles/tricycles were recovered since January till date, while 108 firearms and 721 rounds of various caliber of ammunition were retrieved from them. Others paraded were armed robbery, kidnapping, and land-grabbing suspects. Items recovered include six cars, English pump action, and revolver rifles, locally made guns, six mobile phones, one power generator, two motorcycles, nine firearms, 60 ammunition, local charms, and three cutlasses.   Gunmen have again attacked Budel community in Tangur district, Bokkos Local Government Area of Plateau State. It was gathered that the community was attacked by the gunmen on Thursday night. The latest attack comes a few days after assailants killed over 100 residents in the Bokkos Local Government Area of Plateau State. The Transition Committee Chairman of Bokkos, Monday Kassah, disclosed that the assailants attacked the community on Thursday night, burning and destroying homes. Kassah, however, said no death was recorded in the attack, following the timely intervention of security operatives. While speaking on the Christmas Day attack, the committee chairman said the number of casualties still stands at 195.   Governors of South-West states paid a condolence visit to the Ibadan residence of the late governor of Ondo State, Rotimi Akeredolu, on Friday, assuring collaboration to give Akeredolu a deserving burial. Ogun state governor, Dapo Abiodun, who disclosed this on behalf of other governors of the zone said Akeredolu was a dependable personality.   The Minister of  Solid Minerals Development, Mr Dele Alake, has described Ondo’s former governor Rotimi Akeredolu as someone who struggled for the entrenchment of true federalism. The minister eulogised Akeredolu in a condolence message to his family, Ondo people and other loved ones on Thursday. Gov. Akeredolu  who died on Wednesday. He was aged 67. Alake said that the deceased carved a niche for himself as a bold and irrepressible defender of the interests of Ondo people and the Yoruba nation.

Olajide, J.O. Adeyemi, Bayo Taiwo and M.O. Ishola of the Oyo State High Court, Ibadan; Justice Uche Agomoh of the Federal High Court sitting in Ibadan, Oyo State and Justices A.A. Babawale, A.A.   The Executive Governor of Oyo State, Engr. Seyi Makinde has declared three days of state mourning in honour of the late Rotimi Akeredolu, who was governor of Ondo State and Chairman of the South-West Governors’ Forum. The directive of Makinde, who is also the Vice Chairman of the Nigerian Governors’ Forum, is contained in a statement issued on Thursday in Ibadan by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr Sulaimon Olanrewaju. Akeredolu died on Wednesday morning in Germany, where he had gone for medical treatment. He has been replaced as Ondo State governor by his erstwhile deputy, Mr Lucky Aiyedatiwa. Makinde said that all flags at public offices in Oyo state would be flown at half mast for three days. He had, on Wednesday evening, alongside the Chairman of the Nigerian Governors’ Forum, Gov.   The Nigerian Society of Physical Sciences (NSPS), has pronounced Dr Sulaimon Femi Abimbade of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Ogbomoso, winner of the 2023 Best PhD Thesis Award in Mathematical Sciences.   The Management Committee Chairman of Bokkos Local Government Area of Plateau State has revealed that, 148 people were killed in the Christmas Eve attack in the council. This came as the death toll in the massacre in three local government areas of the state rose to 195. The swearing-in was held at the Cocoa Conference Hall in the governor’s office in Akure, the state capital, and was administered by the chief judge, Justice Olusegun Odusola at 5:18 pm.   Two people have reportedly lost their lives during a fire outbreak at the Ogbomoso residence of a former governor of Oyo State, the late Otunba Adebayo Alao-Akala. The Sector Commandant of State Fire Service, Ogbomoso command, Mr Oluwaseyi Awogbile who confirmed the incident said, the fire accident occured around 7:30. a.m on Monday, December, 18 2023. Mr. Awogile noted that the cause of the fire could not be ascertained as of the time of filling this report, saying the service would soon unravel what might have led the incident. He explained that the fire had been put out to prevent further spread. An eyewitness who preferred anonymity also said the fire incident emanated from gas explosion which he said led to the death of two persons, while another person has been taken to hospital for treatment. Reports state that the acting governor told heads of the newly created LCDA not to open new accounts.   The Nigeria Police Force has stated that citizens have the right to video and take photos of police officers on duty. Force Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, revealed this on Thursday while responding to an X (formerly Twitter) user who said some police officers extorted N10,000 from him for videoing them during a stop-and-search operation, emphasised that it is not an offence to video or take photos of police officers on duty. The X user, @Boy_Cyril wrote on his handle, “Sir, is it a crime to video during stop and search because I had to pay N10,000 for those officers to give me back my phone after taking it forcefully from me just now.” In his response, the Force spokesperson, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi said that the police had announced several times that there is nothing wrong with Nigerians taking photos or videoing police officers on duty.   The son of the late Alaafin of Oyo, Prince Abdulfatai Adeyemi, fondly called D-Gov, is dead. He died in the early hours of Friday, a day before his 47th birthday. He reportedly died of diabetes at the University College Hospital in Ibadan, Oyo State. The Oyo prince, who was said to have been ill for a while, aspired for the Oyo Federal Constituency on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party in 2019 but lost the election to his brother, Akeem Adeyemi, fondly called Skimeh, who was re-elected for the second term. He was appointed by the state governor, Seyi Makinde, as Chairman of the Oyo State Local Government Pension Board in his first term.
