Environmental Sanitation: Oyo bans Human, Vehicular Movement

  Oyo State Government has announced that there would be total restriction of human and vehicular movements during the monthly environmental sanitation exercise holding on Saturday. A statement signed and made available to journalists by the Commissioner for Environment and Natural Resources, Dr. Abdulateef Oyeleke, said the restriction of movement would, however, not affect those on essential duties, including health workers, journalists, and the law enforcement agents. According to the statement, the exercise would hold between 6am and 9am on Saturday, warning against the violation of the environmental sanitation law as violators would face severe penalties. “There shall be total restriction of both vehicular and human movement except for those on essential duties,” the statement said. Meet LAUTECH Alumni Appointed as New Chief Of Naval Staff

  President Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday announced the appointment of Rear Admiral Awwal Zubairu Gambo as the new Chief of Naval Staff alongside other service chiefs.  The new CNS holds a PGD in Transport Management and a Master’s degree in Transport Management (Logistics option) both from Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, LAUTECH, Ogbomoso.  Gambo was born on 22 of April and hails from Nasarawa LGA in Kano State. Fire Guts Sunday Igboho’s House in Ibadan

Days after visiting Igangan in Ibarapa region of Oyo state, the house of Chief Sunday Adeyemo, also known as Sunday Igboho has been reportedly gutted by fire. News reports say that the incident happened around 3am on Tuesday morning. One of the aides said they suspect foul play in the incident. “Igboho has two houses in Soka. The old and the new one where he lives now. The old one got burnt overnight. We suspect foul play. It could be the work of people who don’t like what we are doing to liberate Yoruba from the oppression,” he said. Sunday Adeyemo, better known as Sunday Igboho, has been in the spotlight lately over his eviction notice to herders in Oke Ogun area of Oyo state. He blamed herders for the high level of insecurity in towns and villages in Ibarapa local government area of the state and gave them seven days to vacate the area.

4 Dead in Ogbomoso-Ilorin Road Accident

  Four persons were reported dead in a fatal auto accident which occurred along Ilorin-Ogbomoso Road, Kwara State on Sunday afternoon. An eyewitness account revealed that the accident occurred at Otte town as a result of a collision involving a commercial Toyota Hummer bus with vehicle registration number FFA 717 YR and a truck. According to PUNCH the accident was caused by speeding. It was further gathered that some passengers on the bus were burnt beyond recognition. The Federal Road Safety Corps said that the four dead victims included two males and two females, while no items were recovered at the scene. It said that seven persons – three males and four females – who secured varying degrees of injuries were rescued from the accident, while a total of 18 passengers – ten males and eight females – were involved in the accident.   The Chairman, Oyo State Independent Electoral Commission (OYSIEC), Aare Isiaka Olagunju, has explained why the commission has not fixed a date for the local government elections. LAUTECH: Oyo to Pay Osun N8b

Oyo state government  has approved payment of N8b naira to Osun as part of agreements reached for the sole ownership of the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Ogbomoso. According to the state commissioner of Education, Science and Technology Barrister Olasunkanmi Olaleye, the money is to be paid in four installments, over a period of three years. These were disclosed on Tuesday during a briefing after the weekly State Executive Council meeting presided over Governor Seyi Makinde. A staff of the institution confirmed the death of Professor Folake Akinpelu.  The late Akinpelu was the first female lecturer in Mathematics department. She was an erudite Professor of Mathematics.   In the early hours of January 15, 1966, the military struck and Samuel Ladoke Akintola was assassinated at the Premier’s Lodge at Ibadan by a team of Nigerian soldiers led by Captain Emmanuel Nwobosi. The scion of the family of a late Premier of the defunct Western Region, Ambassador Abayomi Akintola, has given graphic details of the almost twenty-hour siege that culminated in the brutal assassination of his father, Chief Samuel Ladoke Akintola, during the January 15, 1966 coup. He insisted that the body of his father was not mutilated by the mutineers as widely believed, but confirmed that the invaders abandoned his blood-soaked body at the entrance of the building. Widow of Taiwo Adeoye, one of the youths allegedly shot dead by the police during the #EndSARS protest in Ogbomoso, Oyo State has been delivered of a baby boy. The young widow, Semiat, it was gathered, was delivered of the baby in a hospital in Ogbomoso on Wednesday, January 6 less than three months after her husband was killed.
