Oyo Assembly Summons FERMA Boss to Explain the Delay in Federal Roads Repairs in Ogbomoso,Others

  The Oyo State House of Assembly has summoned the Zonal Director of the Federal Highways Maintenance Agency, FERMA, to answer to the state legislature and explain the failure to complete rehabilitation work on some Federal roads in Ogbomoso and other parts of the state. The call, which was jointly sponsored by Hon Sanjo Adedoyin (Ogbomoso South) and Hon Bimbo Oladeji (Ogbomoso North), was made by the House at its Tuesday sitting. The Oyo State House of Assembly Speaker, Hon Adebo Ogundoyin spoke on the need to investigate the growing deterioration of federal roads in the state and stated how unfortunate it was that most Federal roads in the state are no longer motorable and summoned the leader of the Federal Agency to appear before the plenary on July 15. LAUTECH Receives German Grant to Study Relationship Between Malaria and COVID-19

  The Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH). Ogbomoso, Oyo State, has received a German grant to investigate the impact and implications of COVID 19 and malaria co‐infection. The benefactor is the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation, encouraged to give the grant by Bayer Science and Education Foundation, Germany. The grant entails the establishment of a molecular laboratory in LAUTECH to build human capacity prepared to handle disease outbreaks. The research concept is entitled: “Establishment of Centre for Emerging and Re-emerging Infectious Diseases.’’ The German Foundation said in the letter of award to LAUTECH that it hoped that the study would help to understand the clinical and immunological responses of malaria‐infected patients to COVID‐19. Makinde Plans To Replicate FG’s SMART Schools In Oyo Senatorial Districts

   Oyo State Governor, ‘Seyi Makinde has expressed plans of his administration to replicate the construction of the Federal Government’s SMART School Initiative in each of the three senatorial districts of the state. Makinde Dissolves Cabinet

  Governor ‘Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, on Tuesday, announced the dissolution of the state’s Executive Council. Those affected include Chief of Staff (CoS) and 17 Commissioners. The Cabinet was constituted on August 14, 2019, following Makinde’s historic victory in the March 9, 2019, election. The remaining Council members who were not affected include the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Head of Service (HOS) and the Director General of Due Process office.   A former Governor of Oyo State, Chief Adebayo Alao-Akala, and others on Friday eulogised the late Abiola Ajimobi, the state immediate past Governor, who died a year ago.  Ajimobi died on June 25, 2020 due to complications from COVID-19. Alao-Akala, was among other notable personalities that joined the late governor’s family for a Special Fidau Prayer to commemorate the one year anniversary of his death. Wife of Ex-Oyo Commissioner Murdered in Ibadan

  Mrs  Grace Odetomi, wife of former commissioner and three-term chairman of Ogbomoso South local government, Hon. Remi Odetomi was in the early hours of today murdered by unknown gunmen   in  Ibadan. Mrs Odetomi was killed in her home around Ashi area of Ibadan, Oyo state capital in the early hours of friday.  She retired as a primary school teacher and ventured into a private business. Confirming the sad incident, Oyo State Police Public Relation Officer Deputy Superintendent of Police, DSP Adewale Osifeso in a message made available to journalists said that, “The deceased, Olayemi Odetomi, aged 66yrs, died on the spot after being shot during a robbery incident which occured during the early hours of Friday 25th June, 2021 in her home. Insecurity: Oyo Govt to Commence Registration of Residents

  As part of ways to address insecurity in the state, the Oyo State government is to commence the enumeration and registration of all residents of the state. The “Oyo State Residents registration programme” according to Special Assistant on ICT and E-governance to the Oyo governor, Mr Bayo Akande, will also help the government for planning purposes. Speaking during a press briefing at the governor’s office, Ibadan, on Tuesday, Akande added that the exercise will also enable the government to bring in more residents into the state’s tax net. Army arrest Bandit Heading to Ogbomoso

  The Nigerian Army on Tuesday said that its troops along Mokwa-Jebba road intercepted and arrested a fleeing bandit in a vehicle travelling from the Northern part of the country to Ogbomoso, Oyo State, during a stop-and-search operation. This was contained in a statement made available to newsmen in Abuja by the Director Army Public Relations, Brigadier General Onyema Nwachukwu. He stated that the troops sighted an occupant of the vehicle who claimed to be “Sergeant Aminu Sule.” He added that the suspect had a pair of camouflage, military boots, a knife and substance suspected to be charms. He said on further interrogation, the suspect disclosed that he was travelling to Ogbomoso and further claimed that the uniform and boots belonged to his brother, who he said was a soldier. NIHTE delegation inspects ongoing Oyo-Ogbomoso Federal road project

The Oyo State Chapter of the Nigerian Institution of Highway and Transportation Engineers (NIHTE), led by their chairperson, Engineer Esther Oluwakemi Oladeji, visited the Oyo-Ogbomoso Federal road construction project last Thursday. Engineer Olusola Olalerin, the Chief Engineer of the project was there to receive the delegation at km 43 and there, explained that the project is a link section of the 52km-long Ibadan-Ilorin road stretching from where they were to km 95. A former presenter and On Air Personality (OAP) with Naija FM, Titus Badejo, popularly known as Eja Nla, has been killed by unknown gunmen on Saturday in Ibadan, the Oyo state capital. The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, on Wednesday, said it has removed polling units from ‘inappropriate’ places and worship centres across the country. The commission’s chairman, Mahmood Yakubu, disclosed this at a meeting with Resident Electoral Commissioners (RECs) in Abuja. At the meeting, he unveiled the locations of newly created 56,872 Polling Units (PUs) and also announced other electoral arrangements. 1,607 new polling units were created in Oyo state. This brings the total number of polling units in the state to 6,390. With the creation of the new PUs, Mr Yakubu said, Nigeria now has 176,846 full-fledged polling units against its initial 119,974 PUs in the states and Abuja.   The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) said it has arrested the leader of a deadly syndicate of juju scammers, Abayomi Kamaldeen Alaka (a.k.a Awise) over alleged N250million fraud. The EFCC said the leader and members of his syndicate have been operating from a shrine in Ashipa Town, near Abeokuta in Ogun State. A statement by the Head of Media and Publicity of the commission, Mr. Wilson Uwujaren, said the suspected syndicate allegedly tricked a woman to part with the N250million. Peradventure there were still nationalistic remnants among his coterie of admirers, after last Thursday’s interview that the president granted Arise TV, they would be at the crossroads.
