LG Polls: OYSIEC Begins Screening Of Candidates, Promises To Remain Impartial

  The Oyo State Independent Electoral Commission (OYSIEC) on Thursday commenced screening of candidates contesting for chairmanship and councillorship positions in the local government council elections, slated for 22nd May, 2021. The exercise which took place at the premises of the commission was part of measures put in place by the commission to ensure smooth and credible election. The Commission Chairman, Aare Isiaka Abiola Olagunju, SAN , while speaking after assessing the exercise , said the Commission will remain impartial in its conduct by providing a level playing ground for all the political parties. Makinde to engage Man O’ War to secure schools in Oyo

Gov. Seyi Makinde of Oyo state says his administration has concluded arrangements to engage the Man O’ War Nigeria to provide security and surveillance in primary and secondary schools in the state.   The Association of Resident Doctors (ARD), Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH) Teaching Hospital Chapter has ordered its members to stay away from work over persistent assault on members. Gunmen Abduct Hotelier, Wife, Children, Four Others in Ogbomoso, Demand N15m Ransom

A hotelier, Mr Olukunle Oyedokun, also known as Agbo; seven of his family members including his wife and three children and a hotel guest have been abducted by gunmen at Ajaawa, in Ogbomoso zone of Oyo State. Aside Oyedokun, his wife, Busayo Oyedokun, and the baby she’s nursing; his brother’s wife, Julianah Oyedokun, and her 10-year-old son, John; Oyedokun’s first child, Omoriyeba, and her daughter, six-year-old Adesewa; another Oyedokun’s child belonging to the older wife, Oluwajuwonlo; in addition to the guest were also kidnapped. How LAUTECH Student Dies after Falling from Electric Pole

  Academic activities were disrupted on Thursday at the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, LAUTECH, Ogbomoso following the death of a 500 level Student of the Department of Animal Nutrition and Biotechnology, Asefon Nifemi Benard. Nifemi was said to have climbed an electric pole to fix his hostel’s power and in the process of descending from the pole fell to a soakaway. Information has it that it took the students up to twenty minutes before he was evacuated from the soakaway. LAUTECH Governing Council Appoints Prof Liasu as Acting Vice Chancellor

  The newly constituted governing council of the institution has appointed Prof. Mojeed O. Liasu as the acting Vice Chancellor of the institution. This comes following the step-aside order to the ousted Vice-Chancellor of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology – Ogbomoso by the Oyo State Government, Professor Micheal Olufisayo Ologunde. The development was part of the decicion at the 138th and inaugural meeting of the 10th governing council held on Wednesday at the Council Chamber of the institution’s Senate Building. Amotekun Operative Killed By Armed Bandits In Oyo

  A personnel of the Oyo State Security Network Agency codenamed Amotekun, Suleiman Quadri, has been killed by some unknown gunmen. Quadri, 25 was said to have been ambushed by the bandits numbering about 11 while escorting staff of a farm to the farmland in Fiditi on Tuesday. The gunmen opened fire on the security operative and his colleague Amoo Yisau. While Yisau survived but with gunshot injuries, Quadri was unlucky as he gave up the ghost immediately. Yisau is currently receiving treatment at the General Hospital, Owode, Oyo. The commandant of Amotekun Corps, Col. Olayinka Olayanju (rtd), confirmed the incident. He said Quadri has since been buried according to Islamic rites.

LG Election: OYSIEC Shifts Election Date By A Week

  The Oyo State Independent Electoral Commission (OYSIEC) has announced the shift in the date for the conduct of local government election in the state. The election which was earlier scheduled for May 15 date has been shifted by a week to now hold on May 22. Chairman, OYSIEC, Mr Isiaka Olagunju made the announcement at the flag off of the statewide voter education and mobilisation campaign towards the local government election organised by the National Orientation Agency (NOA), in Ibadan, on Wednesday. LG Polls: Oyo Govt Awards N279.5 Million For Production of Ballot Papers

  The Oyo State Government has approved the printing of 2.6 million customized ballot papers to be used for the forthcoming Local Government election which is scheduled to hold on May 15th, 2021 for N279.5 million. Makinde Orders LAUTECH VC, Prof Michael Ologunde To Step Aside

  Oyo State Governor, Engr Seyi Makinde has directed the Vice Chancellor, Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Professor Michael Olufisayo Ologunde, to step aside until further notice. Oyo State Governor, Engineer Seyi Makinde, has called on leaders in the country to shun partisanship and come together to mount a collective fight against insecurity in the country. The governor stated this while hosting the governors of Borno, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum, his Kwara State counterpart, Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq and a former governor of Borno State, Senator Kashim Shettima at the Government House, Agodi, Ibadan. The Oyo State helmsman said he believed that security challenges facing the nation are surmountable but required the collaborative efforts of stakeholders.   President Muhammadu Buhari approved the appointment of principal officers and members of the Governing Councils for the newly established Polytechnics and Colleges of Education. Director Press and Public Relations, Ben Bem Goong who announced this in a statement on Thursday in Abuja said the Chairmen and members of the Council of the affected institutions shall be inaugurated by the Minister of Education Malam Adamu Adamu at a date to be announced. According to him, Professor Dakas J Dakas was appointed as the Chairman of the Federal Polytechnic, Ayede, Oyo State governing council while Dr Taofeek Adekunle is the Rector.
