Makinde: Foiling The Editorialist, Battling The War Mongers | Taiwo Adisa

On December 25, 2020, a popular Nigerian newspaper ran an editorial with the title “Makinde, insecurity is getting messier in Oyo State.” To that newspaper, its piece was an adumbration of the January to December situation in Oyo as far as crime reporting was concerned in 2020. But that report was shocking in many respects. First, Oyo State was nowhere near the ‘theatres of war’ that the North-East, North-Central, and North-West of Nigeria had become. Again, statistics from the Nigeria Police Force, Oyo State Command had debunked that conclusion. According to the statistics prepared by the office of the Commissioner of Police, Oyo State, the crime rate in Oyo was lower in 2020 compared to 2019. In fact, the rate was reduced to as much as 45 per cent, something the police described as a signal that “the governor’s efforts to secure Oyo were working.” In the State Crime Index published by the Police, the Force stated that whereas a total of 182 armed robbery cases were recorded in ...

The Rise and Rise of Sunday Dare |Afolabi Gambari

By Afolabi Gambari The Federal Ministry of Sports has for decades been reputed as the typical old barber’s chair that rotated non-stop and in which many clients revelled in being taken on a roll. Aside from the ministry being somewhat notorious for the largest turnover of ministers who were soon yanked off the office even before settling down to work, candidates for the office were also often seen as those who must be just allocated a ministry ‘to fulfill righteousness’ after other “serious ministries” had been allocated. It is for this particular reason that the sports sector has continued to be seen as a “recreation centre” rather than the pure business that it should be, with the potential to be a big employer of labour. But the appointment of Mr. Sunday Akin Dare by President Muhammadu Buhari in December 2015 to oversee the Sports Ministry apparently took cognisance of a Game-changer who had excelled as a Journalist, Academic, Political Strategist and Communications Technocra...

Meaning that there was no total handing over! To show her grievances, the Christian body proceeds to protest against the government decision, which is in line with the law, but while exercising their civil rights, some acclaimed Islamic terrorists (who some may claim they are not...
