Collaboration with OPC Has Reduced Crime Rate in South-West – IGP

The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Mohammed Adamu, has revealed that his collaboration with the Oodua Peoples Congress (OPC) has led to a significant reduction in crime rate in South-West Nigeria. The IGP, who made the revelation through a delegation sent to the Aare Ona Kankanfo of Yorubaland and Leader of the OPC, Iba Gani Adams, in Lagos on Thursday, said that he would sustain the synergy and partnership with the OPC to further reduce crime rate and ensure peace in the southwest area. Rising from a meeting with the delegation, the Aare Ona Kankanfo commended the initiative of the IGP to partner with his organisation to fight crime, as he pledged that the OPC will not betray the course. Makinde Begins E-migrant Registration, Says Administration Requires Peace, Security

The Governor of Oyo State, Engineer Seyi Makinde, on Friday started E-Migrant registration, a programme of the Nigeria Immigration service in the state, declaring that the programme would help in security of lives. Governor Makinde, who stated this at the state’s headquarters of the Immigration Service, said that his administration was ready to do everything to enhance peace, safety and adequate security of lives and property among all residents in the state. Hoodlums Allegedly Invade Govt Schools In Oyo, Stole Valuable Items

Hoodlums have allegedly destroyed property and took away valuables belonging to public primary and secondary schools in Oyo. It was explain that it happened due to the inability of the schools’ management to pay for the services of security guards and other important bills. There are 623 secondary schools and 1,576 public primary schools in the state. Governor Makinde ordered that all forms of payment in public primary and secondary schools stop with immediately effect on May 29 in his inagural speech, leaving the schools without running funds to pay their bills. It was learnt that if nothing is done by the government to inject funds in the system before the resumption of schools in September, the public schools in the state may witness a very low performance in academic activities and lack of teachers. Oyo State Govt Announces Sanitation Exercise Tomorrow, Orders Restriction Of Movement

The Oyo state government has announced that the national monthly environmental sanitation exercise would hold tomorrow, Saturday, 31st August, 2019. According to a statement issued and signed by the Hon. Commissioner, Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources, Hon. Kehinde Ayoola, the sanitation exercise would hold between the hours of 6:00am and 9:00am and total restriction of human and vehicular movement should be adhered to except for those on essential duties. Oyo Assembly Sets To Reduce 2019 Budget Approved by Ajimobi

Oyo State House of Assembly on Thursday started the review of the over N285 billion budget approved for 2019 fiscal year by the immediate past Governor of the state, Senator Abiola Ajimobi. This followed the second reading of the Oyo State Appropriation and Finance bills 2019 at during the plenary presided over by the Speaker, Hon Adebo Ogundoyin. According to newsmen, the administration of Governor Seyi Makinde is seeking a reduction of the 2019 budget by forty percent, putting the new proposed figure at N171 billion, as against the one earlier prepared for the year under review. Oyo state government has said it will run an all-inclusive budgetary system that would put into consideration the overall needs of its citizens to achieve the set target of developing the State. Makinde Appoints Oni As Executive Chairman Of State’s Mineral Devt Agency

Oyo State Governor, Engineer Seyi Makinde, has appointed an expert in the oil and gas industry, Mr Abiodun Oni, as the Executive Chairman of the Oyo State Mineral Development Agency. The appointment was announced in a statement signed by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mr Taiwo Adisa, on Thursday. Vacate Flood-prone Areas, Oyo Govt Warns Residents

Oyo State government has called on people living close to flood-prone areas to vacate the places pending the period the current heavy rains would recede to avoid loss of lives and valuable properties to the flood. It has been established that certain actions aggravate flooding such as dumping of wastes on river channels and waterways and such acts lead to blockage of drainage and river channels. Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has disclosed that his monthly salary as the state governor is N650,000. He, therefore, declared his readiness to tackle poor remuneration in the state’s civil service. Makinde made this declaration while addressing the newly sworn-in Commissioners in the state as he reiterated his commitment towards finding a lasting solution to the issue of poor remuneration in the civil service. Oyo Govt Says No Pensioner Should Henceforth Pay to Process Gratuity

Oyo state ministry of establishment and training has assured that henceforth nobody will demand percentage from pensioners before processing their gratuities. Commissioner for establishment and training ,Mr Olasunkanmi Olaleye gave the assurance when he paid a courtesy visit to the secretariat of the Nigeria Union of Pensioners (NUP), Oyo state chapter, Ibadan. NECO Cancels Results Of 3 Schools in Oyo, Others Over Mass Cheating

The National Examination Council on Tuesday recommended the de-recognition of three schools in Oyo, Katsina and Kebbi states for two years, for their involvement in mass cheating during the examinations. The Acting Registrar of the council, Abubakar Gana, stated this during the release of the 2019 June/July Senior School Certificate Examination results in Minna, saying that a total of 1,163,194 registered for the examination. According to him, a total of 40,630 cases of malpractices were recorded, representing 3.53 percent in 2019; as against 20,181 in 2018. He said that the number of candidates that sat the examination was 1,151,016, including 146 blind students. According to him, the candidates who made credit and above in English language were 984,152, which represented 85.50 per cent; while candidates who made credit in mathematics were 954,399; representing 83. 03 per cent. EFCC Arrests Suspected Internet Master Over N223m Transaction

The Ibadan zonal office of the Economic Crimes Commission, EFCC, has announced that it has arrested one Ajayi Gbenga Festus over an alleged illegal transaction through his Nigerian bank N223 million. Speaking with newsmen in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, the head of the Ibadan zonal office, Mr. Friday Ebelo, said that the suspect was arrested during one of the commission’s operations in Ado-Ekiti. Ebelo added that the suspect, according to the commission’s investigation, “works with other cybercriminals abroad in a highly experienced web of conspiracy designed to illegally access accounts of individuals and organizations to defraud them of their money.” He explained further that “we were able to establish a number of illicit transactions through his Nigerian bank account amounting to over N223 million. Oyo Govt To Buy 100 Patrol Vans, Distribute 1.7M Notebooks To 463,801 Students

The Executive Governor of Oyo State, Engr. Seyi Makinde  has on Tuesday approved the procurement of 100 units of Kia Rio automatic transmission executive patrol vehicles for security operatives in the state. The approval was given during the maiden state executive council meeting held at the executive chambers of the Governor’s Office Complex yesterday. The  Council also approved the distribution of 1.7 million books to 463,801 public school students in the state. While the cost implication of the vehicles was put at N832, 650,000 million, that of the books stands at N447, 257, 384 million. A Customary Court in Ile-Tuntun, Ibadan, on Tuesday, dissolved a 20-year-old marriage between Rofiat and Wasiu, over husband’s laziness. Delivering judgment, Chief Henry Agbaje, the President of the court, held that any man who wants to earn respect and happiness in a marriage, must not be jobless. He counselled spouses to learn from the story of Rofiat and Wasiu. The arbitrator, therefore, dissolved the union in the interest of peaceful living and granted custody of the four children produced by the union to Rofiat. Agbaje directed Wasiu to pay N8,000 as the children’s monthly feeding allowance in addition to being responsible for their education and other welfare. Makinde Approves Procurement Of Exercise Books, Vehicles for Security Agencies

Oyo State government has approved the procurement of exercise books for primary and secondary school students in the state-owned schools. This was part of the outcome of the first Executive Council meeting of the Governor Seyi Makinde-led administration.  The government also approved the procurement of 100 units of Kia Rio 1.4 Executive Automatic Transmission vehicles for the various security agencies in the State. In a tweet on the official twitter account of the governor, Makinde said as servants, their responsibility is to act in the best interest of the people.
