The American returnee who was initially tested positive of coronavirus has been discharged from the isolation centre. The release of the patient was consequent upon the completion of his treatment at the Agbami Chest Hospital isolation centre, Ibadan. The American returnee had initially tested negative only for the second test to read positive. The index case had been on self-isolation at a private residence in Ibadan until he was transferred to the Isolation centre at Agbami, Jericho area of Ibadan on March 23, 2020. The index case was released after two consecutive negative tests, the statement read. The statement also quoted the State’s Incident Manager, Dr. Taiwo Ladipo as saying that the confirmed case spent six days in the isolation centre and had two negative tests. “He is well and very stable and is now back to his house. The infectious disease specialist will be reviewing him for follow.

The Chief Medical Director of the University College hospital (UCH), Ibadan, Nigeria, Professor Jesse Abiodun Otegbayo has tested positive for coronavirus. Prof. Otegbayo on his Twitter handle, @UchCmd, said that the college commenced a 12-man quarterly board meeting on Monday which was meant to last five days in the hospital. He said social distancing and other precautionary measures for covid-19 were observed. "However, on Wednesday morning, one of us presented with what appeared to be symptoms of covid-19, his samples were immediately taken for test and the meeting called off. His results returned positive on Friday morning and every participant (including me) immediately went into self-isolation while our samples were also taken for test. The provost and deputy provost, University of Ibadan College of Medicine, Prof. Ezekiel Olapade-Olaopa and Prof. Obafunke Denloye, have tested positive for coronavirus. The National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has confirmed Four new cases of COVID-19 in Oyo State. The Nigerian government has announced eight new cases of Covid-19 in the country. This brings the total number of confirmed cases in Nigeria to 97 A breakdown of the new cases shows that Lagos remains the epicentre of the disease in the country. The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control on its twitter handle said the eight new cases were reported in the Federal Capital Territory, Oyo, Kaduna and Osun States. FCT had two new cases, four in Oyo, one in Kaduna and one in Osun. The NCDC said “As at 10:40 pm 28th March there are 97 confirmed cases of #COVID19 reported in Nigeria with one death. Gov. Seyi Makinde of Oyo State says he is on self-isolation based on the advice by National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) to governors who attended the last National Executive Council (NEC) meeting. In a live tweet chat monitored in Ibadan on Saturday, Makinde said that governors who attended the NEC meeting came in contact with a confirmed COVID-19 case. “We were all advised to self-isolate and go for test. I have been in self-isolation since then.” he tweeted. The Executive Governor of Oyo state, Engineer Seyi Makinde has imposed a dusk to dawn curfew from 7:00pm to 6:00am and ban gatherings of more than ten persons in the state in order to curb the spread of the coronavirus pandemic. Oyo State Governor, Engineer Seyi Makinde has approved for immediate rehabilitation and reconstruction, a total of eight road projects in various zones of the State. The State’s Commissioner for Public Works and Transport, Professor Raphael Afonja, who revealed this development on Friday, said that infrastructural development remained a key focus of the present administration. The Executive Governor of Oyo State, Engr. Seyi Makinde has terminated the appointment of his Special Assistant on Digital Media, Mr. Muritala Olajide Adigun. As stated in a letter signed by Mrs. Olabamiwo Adeosun, the Secretary to the State government, she said the termination is with immediate effect. Governor Makinde appreciated and commended the effort of Mr. Adigun during the short time of  sojourn and also wished him success in his future endeavours. Adigun had erroneously posted a wrong picture on his Facebook and Twitter pages on Thursday indicating that the governor had procured disinfectants to prevent spread of Covid-19 in the state. He was openly criticized and attacked by some Facebook and Twitter users especially opposition members that it was Lagos state government that procured the disinfectants. The Oyo state government has shut down the state civil service for two weeks over the coronavirus pandemic in the state. The lockdown will kick off from Friday, March 27, the governor said. This was made known in a tweet by the Oyo state Governor, Engineer Seyi Makinde on Wednesday. Governor Makinde, however said only workers rendering essential services will be required to report for duty. Popular Ibadan-based broadcast journalist, Edmund Obilo, is currently on admission at the University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan, Oyo State. He was quarantined on suspicion of being a coronavirus case. A source close to Edmund Obilo told Tribune Online that the journalist was admitted on Thursday evening following which his samples were taken and forwarded to Lagos for confirmation of his status. The result of his test is expected to be released on Saturday, March 21, while he was said to be complaining of the condition of where he was quarantined. The hospital confirmed on Friday that it had on admission a suspected case of coronavirus but did not disclose the identity of the patient.

National Chairman of the All Progressive Congress (APC), Adam Oshiomhole has presented former Oyo State governor, Senator Abiola Ajimobi as deputy national chairman of the party to President Muhammadu Buhari. Oshiomhole who resumed office after being away for about two weeks, was quoted to have said he had learnt his lesson. An Abuja High Court had on March 4 ordered the suspension of Oshiomhole. But reprieve came his way on Monday when an appeal court ruled in his favour. Oshiomhole chaired the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) meeting at its national secretariat in Abuja. At the end of the meeting that lasted for about five hours, Oshiomhole announced the lifting of the suspension on the party’s national deputy chairman (North), Senator Lawal Shuaibu and the national vice-chairman (North West), Inuwa Abdulkadir.

A suspected case of coronavirus is currently being monitoring in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital. The State Commissioner for Health,  Bashir Bello, a medical doctor said that a man, in his 50s, who arrived Bodija area of Ibadan from the United Kingdom, has been isolated for the past four days. According to him, the UK returnee living in Ibadan had a temperature spike of 37.9 celsius and his blood sample was subsequently taken to Lagos COVID-19 testing facility of (NCDC).
