The Supreme Court has ruled that both the old and new naira notes will co-exist as legal tender in the country until further notice. The court had extended the deadline for the use of both currency notes to phase out old naira notes to December 31, 2023. In a ruling by a seven-man panel led by Justice Inyang Okoro, on Wednesday, the court said both the old and new banknotes should remain in circulation, pending when the federal government, after due consultation with relevant stakeholders, takes a decision on the matter. The court made the order after hearing an application that was moved on behalf of the federal government by the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Prince Lateef Fagbemi (SAN). The Supreme Court maintained that evidence before it established that a purported notice on the monetary policy was through “mere press remarks” by governor of the CBN, Godwin Emefiele.   Activities for the official coronation of the Soun of Ogbomoso, Oba Ghandi  Afolabi Olaoye Orumogege III is scheduled to hold between December 14 and 19, 2023. This development followed the approval of motion of stay of excution by the Oyo State High Court against the nullification of the selection process which enthroned Oba Ghandi Afolabi Olaoye Orumogege III. The chairman of the central planning committee of the coronation, Professor Adesola Adepoju said in a statement on Tuesday, that the date published by some news outlets is incorrect adding that the correct date December 14 - 19. He appreciated media partners for their supports and urged them to always seek proper clarifications from the appropriate authority before going to press.     An Oyo State High Court sitting in Ogbomoso has allowed Oba Ghandi Afolabi Olaoye's application for stay of execution of nullification of his appointment as Soun of Ogbomosoland while the determination of appeal is pending. This comes after Oba Olaoye’s appointment as the Soun was nullified by the court over procedural flaw in his nomination. Issuing the order Monday (Nov 27), in suit no HOG/27/2022, presiding judge, Justice Kareem Adeyimika Adedokun, directed all the parties to maintain status quo ante pending the hearing and determination of the appeal already filed by the defense of Oba Olaoye and the Oyo state government. Enitan ended the hand wash-a-thon initially fixed for 50 hours at 12:05 AM on Monday, November 27, which made her surpass the set duration.
