Oyo-Ogbomoso Highway: Stop Giving Building Approval On the right-of-way, FG tells Oyo Govt

 


The Federal Government has implored Oyo State Government to stop approving the erection of buildings and other structures on the right-of-way of the Oyo – Ogbomoso highway.

Mr. Funsho Adebiyi, the Director of Highways, Federal Ministry of Works, made the appeal on Saturday, in Oyo town.

53-kilometers while addressing newsmen after an inspection tour of the 53-kilometer Oyo – Ogbomoso dual carriageway, which is under construction.

Adebiyi, who was accompanied by the Oyo State Controller of Works, in the Ministry, Mr. Kayode Ibrahim, explained that there was no building at the initial stage of designing the road.

“But as soon as the work started, structures started emerging on the road’s right of ways and they are now asking us for compensation.

“This is not right, the state government should please have mercy on us and stop approving structures on our right of ways, where they know our men are working because it approving for us.

“Also, the state government should stop approving illegal mining along our alignment,” he said.

there decried the sand mining activities on the road alignment, saying there had been making earth-work difficult on the road construction.

“What we could have used as earth-work have been mined off and we were forced to bring in materials from another borrowed pit to fill the already mined alignment.

“So, the cost of haulage is, increasing the cost of our construction work.

“On the main alignment, there were present of rock that the needed to be evacuated through blasting but couldn’t do that because of the closeness of the structures.

“Such structures can collapse and kill its occupant techniques we to carry out the blasting. So, we have to use other expensive techniques to blast the rock,” he said.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the road is the second section of the Ibadan-Ilorin road.

It is a subsection of a major trunk A1 road which originated from Apapa Wharf in Lagos and terminates at Sokoto State.

NAN also reports that the construction of the road is being handled by Reynolds Construction Company.

NECO releases 2022 SSCE external results

The National Examinations Council (NECO) has released the results of the November/December 2022 Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE). Dantani Ibrahim Wushishi, the registrar of NECO, broke the news on Thursday in Minna, the capital of Niger state. The 2022 SSCE for external candidates was held from November 21 to December 21. The NECO registrar said a total of 59,124 candidates sat for the examination, with 31,316 males, representing 52.96 per cent, while 27,808, representing 47.03 per cent, were female. He said 58,012 candidates sat for the English Language with 44,162, representing 76.13 per cent, getting credit and above. According to Wushishi, the number of candidates who wrote Mathematics is 57,700, out of which 43,096, representing 74.69 per cent, got credit and above. He also disclosed that 46,825 candidates, representing 79.20%, got five credits and above — irrespective of English Language and Mathematics.
