Fix Ogbomoso Township Roads |Adelani Olawuyi

That the Federal Government is rehabilitating the Takie/Caretaker area of the federal highway in Ogbomoso, Oyo State is good but the diversion of traffic to the township roads has created more problems for the people of the second largest city in the state.

All the township roads have been damaged by the many heavy duty vehicles and other articulated ones that were diverted to them especially the north bound trailers. What made the damage severe is the fact that these heavy laden North-bound vehicles remain stationary for hours or days before they could meander through these roads that were not originally constructed for their use.

The economic life of the inhabitants has since changed for the worse as a result. Traders can no longer display their wares for lack of buyers, as commercial vehicle owners have been forced to go back to the farm as a result of damage of their cabs and buses.

The rehabilitation of these township roads is far beyond the local government officials. The Oyo State and Federal Government are in the position to repair or reconstruct them. The network of township roads is in dire state. The rainy season is here and there are gorges here and there; the result of flooding on the damaged bridges is better imagined.

Also, the contractor handling the rehabilitation of the Takie-Caretaker part should expedite action on it. The work is taking too long a time. The delay has added to if not the cause of the failed township roads in the town. Traffic has not abated due largely to the shameful gorge at the Caretaker area of the road. The neglect of timely repair makes rebuilding necessary. But the Federal Government should also extend the rehabilitation to Arinkinkin in order to obviate human and vehicular disaster associated with the axis.

Also, the ongoing dualisation of the Oyo/Ogbomoso portion of the Ibadan/Oyo/Ogbomoso/Ilorin federal highway should be completed without further delay, as doing that will reduce the pressure on the township and other roads in Ogbomoso for that matter.
