Makinde Mourns Akala, Directs Flags To Fly Half-Mast Across the State

Governor ‘Seyi Makinde has ordered that flags be flied at half-mast, in honour of former governor, Alao Akala; who died at the age of 71.

A source close to the former governor disclosed that Chief Alao-Akala, died on Wednesday in his room in Ogbomoso, his country home.

The Ogbomoso born politician, had been battling terminal ailment for a while, according to sources.

Commiserating with the people of Oyo state on his Instagram page, Makinde said Otunba Akala, was an illustrious son of Ogbomoso, who will be remembered for for “his contributions to the development of Oyo state during his time as a governor, especially for taking infrastructural development to other zones of the state outside Ibadan”.

Confirming the death of the former governor, Makinde during the inter faith prayer session for Oyo state workers held today at the secretariat, asked the attendees to observe a minute silence for Otunba Akala.

Makinde also prayed that God would grant Akala’s family the fortitude to bear the loss.

Born on 3rd June, 1950, the former police officer was governor of Oyo state between 2007 and 2011.

Alao-Akala was until his death a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

He, however, governed Oyo state on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party.

He was also the governorship candidate of the Action Democratic Party in the state during the 2019 general elections.
