Oyo State First Lady, Engr. Tamunominini Makinde, has called on all stakeholders to work towards the elimination of all forms of Gender-Based Violence (GBV) in the state.
Makinde gave the admonition on Wednesday, April 20, when she hosted the Oyo State Commissioner of Police, CP Ngozi Onadeko and the Oyo State Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) Mrs. Uche Chukwurah, who were on a courtesy visit to her office.
She added that the menace has become a serious challenge to all, calling on all critical stakeholders to join hands and fight the ugly trend of cases of rape in the society.
Mrs. Makinde sought the support and cooperation of the security chiefs towards total elimination of the menace, considering growing effects and cases of Gender Based Violence (GBV) and the need to end it in the society.
“During the visit, we discussed the ways to further strengthen our advocacy against all forms of gender-based violence in Oyo State”, she said.
“We also discussed the dangers of street trading and the need to counsel mothers and parents to desist from putting their children in the line of danger through such acts. We agreed that safety of the younger ones should remain a top priority of the mothers”, she added.
Responding, the Security chiefs, who are women, said they have since keyed into the agenda in the fight against Gender Based Violence as well as other forms of abuses against women, assuring to partner with the State Government in the task of ending hydra-headed monster in the state.
