Oyo Cancels Six Years Promotion Waiting Period for Primary School Teachers

Oyo State Government has announced the cancellation of the  six-year promotion  waiting period for primary school teachers in the state.

Executive Chairman, Oyo State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Dr Nureni Adeniran disclosed this on Thursday, during a live programme on BCOS, Ibadan.

He said the promotion waiting period of teachers on Grade Level 13 and above was initially six years, but the state government has adjusted it to be at par with their colleagues at the mainstream service.

The SUBEB boss explained that that this was necessitated by the fact that welfare of teachers and stakeholders in the education sector is paramount to  Governor Seyi Makinde.

Adeniran applauded the governor’s  investment in laudable projects, which in turn is enhancing effective learning and quality academic activities.

He stressed that SUBEB and other educational bodies in the state are committed to the gradual improvement and performance of learners.

Adeniran also reiterated the commitment of the present administration to sustain its drive for quality education in the state. 

Applauding the government’s gesture towards his colleagues, the Chairman, Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) in the state, Mr. Raji Oladimeji Ismael, said the union appreciates the present administration in Oyo State.

He noted that the present administration has impacted the lives of teachers in so many ways.

Raji said Makinde has surpassed past administrations, pointing at the recently approved leave grant for teachers, which will be released very soon.

“We are joyous, because the approval of promotion letters to teachers on Grade Level 13-16 has been a clog in the wheels of progress in our profession. Governor Makinde has done what others could not do. The waiting period of teachers has been removed. Instead of six years, we henceforth will wait for three years,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Barr. Rahman Abiodun Abdu-Raheem, has revealed that the Oyo State Government has commenced the distribution of exercise books to students in public secondary schools and technical colleges for the 2021/2022 academic session.

According to the commissioner,  this is another forward leap in the history of education in the state, as this will assist parents in reducing the cost of education of their children.

Abdu-Raheem noted that despite the COVID-19 pandemic, the governor had invested funds on personnel and education materials from the Oyo Education Trust Fund’s purse, in order to bring greater development to the sector.

NECO releases 2022 SSCE external results

The National Examinations Council (NECO) has released the results of the November/December 2022 Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE). Dantani Ibrahim Wushishi, the registrar of NECO, broke the news on Thursday in Minna, the capital of Niger state. The 2022 SSCE for external candidates was held from November 21 to December 21. The NECO registrar said a total of 59,124 candidates sat for the examination, with 31,316 males, representing 52.96 per cent, while 27,808, representing 47.03 per cent, were female. He said 58,012 candidates sat for the English Language with 44,162, representing 76.13 per cent, getting credit and above. According to Wushishi, the number of candidates who wrote Mathematics is 57,700, out of which 43,096, representing 74.69 per cent, got credit and above. He also disclosed that 46,825 candidates, representing 79.20%, got five credits and above — irrespective of English Language and Mathematics.
