Surulere LG lawmakers suspend vice chairman indefinitely

The legislative arm of Surulere Local Government in Oyo State has suspended the Vice Chairman of Surulere Local Government and the political head of Surulere South LCDA, Mr Maruf Gbadamosi.

The suspension came about during the plenary session of the Legislative Arm which took place on Friday at the Oluwakemi Alao-Akala Legislative Chambers in the local government secretariat.

While moving the motion for the suspension, the majority leader of the House, Mr. Babatunde Kareem from Igbon/Gambari Ward accused the Vice Chairman of fraudulent duplication and selling of rate receipts for personal enrichment, non-attendance of security meetings despite receiving huge amounts of money to that effect from security voting financial backing, negligence of duty, auctioning of council government vehicles and tractors inclusive to self through surrogates and shabby implementation of projects.

Other offences include, selling and allocation of government property with neither accountability nor due process, abuse of office through hijacking of government contracts in contravention of the constitution, shabby dealings leading to incessant police invitations, arrests and detentions despite being the occupant of official position which goes with integrity and respect.

Also, he was accused of abandonment of the official secretariat and turning his residence to operational office for months, high-handedness leading to exodus of staff to other local government areas of the state and zero accountability on implemented projects, e.g shabby implementation of channelization of White House Road, Oko.

Mr. Ezekiel Odedeji from Iregba Ward 06 seconded the motion to suspend the Mr. Maruf Gbadamosi indefinitely.

The House leader of the Surulere Local Government Legislative Arm, Mr. Simeon Ibitoyewho presided over the plenary, called for adoption of the suspension and subjected it to a vote.

All the ten councillors in attendance all voted in support of the motion calling for the indefinite suspension of Mr. Maruf Gbadamosi as the vice chairman of Surulere Local Government and the political head of Surulere South LCDA. Mr Ibitoye, therefore, ruled for the indefinite suspension of Mr. Gbadamosi Maruf.
