Makinde says he remain committed to functional and qualitative education in Oyo state at 34th Vice Chancellors of Nigeria conference

Oyo state Governor Seyi Makinde said his administration has begun rolling out plans for a functional and qualitative education that would engineer processes of sustainable development in the state.

The Governor said this in an address delivered at the 34th conference of the association of Vice Chancellors of Nigerian Universities (AVCNU) held at the University of Ibadan

While lamenting the poor state of education in Oyo state before he took over and its weak quality assurance monitoring mechanism, Governor Makinde noted that his administration would revisit an existing MOU signed with the University of Ibadan to improve quality in the state education sector

The Governor also reiterated his commitment to maintain a budgetary allocation for education in line with the UNESCO standard and assured that his administration remained open to support, partnership and synergy with the University of Ibadan for quality control

The vice Chancellor university of Ibadan professor Abel Idowu Olayinka has decried the shortfall in funding Nigerian Universities as bane to the growth of the system, noting that this has hampered the ability of the Nigerian Universities to pay the staff salary and their allowances.

The VC added that this year's conference would allow the academia share ideas on how the problem confronting the Nigerian Universities could be addressed and put in perspective.
