Sports Minister Excited with Facilities at Ahmadu Bello Stadium




The Minister of Youth and Sports Development, Mr. Sunday Dare who was on a one-day working visit to Kaduna, Tuesday, August 27, 2019, expressed delight with the state of facilities at the Ahmadu Bello Stadium, Kaduna.
Mr. Dare said, “I am not disappointed by what I have seen here, the management of the stadium over the years have done a good job to keep it in this state. For a stadium that was built in 1964. I am not disappointed by what I have seen here,” .
At the outdoor and volleyball courts area, he was informed that asbestos which was used for the roofing is being phased out all over the world due to its health risks, and he hinted of the need to replace the roofing with aluminium sheets.
At the Indoor Sports Hall, he frowned at the leaking roof at several points due to what the stadium manager, Mr. Gideon Malo said was as a result of architectural default.
He vowed to ensure that the stadia owned by the Federal Government would be turned into modern sports centres for youth development, through public private partnership.
Earlier, the Minister, who was received at the Rigasa Train Station at about 9am in the morning, first paid courtesy call on Governor Nasir el-Rufai, at the Sir Kashim Ibrahim House, where he expressed optimism in the state government’s drive at developing grassroots sports.
He was later taken on a tour of sports facilities at the Murtala Mohammed Square Kaduna, where he praised the state government for putting state of the art facilities.
Top dignitaries that accompanied him on the tour include the Commissioner of Youth and Sports Kaduna State, Professor Kabiru Mato, Director Grassroots Sports Development in the Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports Development, Dr. Ademola Are, and Kaduna State Director of Sports, Yakubu Ibrahim.
