N35,000 Wage Increase : Oyo Workers Threaten Sit-At-Home Protest

Workers have threatened to stage a sit-at-home protest at the end of October if the state government fails to meet its demands for a wage increase of N35,000 for workers and N25,000 for pensioners.

Chairman of Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) in the state, Kayode Martins issued the threat on behalf of workers after a congress held at the NLC State Secretariat.

He said the demand for wage awards is in line with the federal government economic relief package for workers to cushion the effect of economic hardship caused by fuel subsidy removal.

In his remark, the Secretary of the Nigerian Union of Pensioners (NUP), Oyo state chapter, Segun Abatan explained that though Governor Seyi Makinde has proven to show empathy for workers’ welfare but he must tend to their demands this time around or expect a public protest from pensioners.
