Chief Bayo Adelabu, the Oyo APC gubernatorial candidate in 2019 governorship election has boasted that, his Party, All Progressive congress will defeat governor Seyi Makinde and his party comes 2023 general election.
Adelabu, made the statement on Thursday at Best Western Hotel Iyaganku in Ibadan during a media parley, held to herald his 50th Birthday.
He said, close to one and half years in government, Makinde and his party are wasting time, as not being able to make good decision. He opined that with the poor performance of the ruling party in the state, it going to make it easier for APC to win the state comes 2023.
“Everything this administration promised the people of the state is still on their wish list 16 months after coming on board. With the caliber of people that have returned to APC, no party can stand the way of our party,” he said.
“No state needs a governor before salary is paid. When salary is paid through statutory allocations and it goes straight to the Accountant General, they take it to the bank and they pay. Why must that be the major achievement of any governor?
“And when you embark too much on populist programmes, which, in most cases, are not always giving the state sustainable development, it is more about immediate consumption.
“Populist programme are short-lived. Within a short period, people will know that this man doesn’t really have so much to offer in terms of sustainable infrastructural development.
“It is going to two years now, can you point at one or two major projects that this government has completed? Everything is still on their wish list and if wishes were horses, beggars would ride,” he said.
“The government is wasting Oyo state money on unnecessary and duplication of projects, PDP poor performance will make it easy for APC to dislodge PDP in 2023.
Adelabu also berated Makinde’s construction of motor parks in the state said it is a duplication of project. “ he is just wasting billions of naira on an existing projects, like the motor parks he is constructing, what he just need is to modernized the existing ones. The one constructing at Iwo road is needless, Ajimobi has already did one at WEMA, a stone throw to the one his is building now.
At the first day of the five days scheduled program to celebrate his birthday, Adelabu told over 150 journalists drawn from media houses that, he has no regret for not winning the 2019 governorship election in Oyo state, stated that he is happy for not winning the contest, said loosing the election has afforded him opportunity of knowing more about how progressives in the state operate.
