Gani Adams Calls for Oyo CP Redeployment

 



The Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, has been urged by the Aare Ona Kakanfo of Yorubaland, Chief Gani Adams to redeploy the Oyo state Commissioner of police, Mrs. Ngozi Onadeko.

In a Sunday statement released by his Special Assistant on Media, Mr. Kehinde Aderemi, the Yoruba chieftain blamed the Oyo Commissioner of Police directly for the detention of the three Oodua People’s Congress (OPC) members that apprehended and handed over the suspected kidnapper, Iskilu Wakili to the police.

He especially took offence with the murder and arson charges leveled at the OPC trio, stating that such flimsy cases are capable of destroying the trust society has in the Nigerian Police Force.

In his words, “Last week, the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi III, expressed concern at the spate of insecurity in the state. Kabiesi lamented that over 70 percent of farmers in Oke Ogun, Ibarapa and its environs could no longer go to their farms because of the fear of being kidnapped and killed by bandits and criminal Fulani herdsmen.

“From what Kabiesi had said, it is no doubt that there is impending danger lurking around the state. If farmers couldn’t go to their farms, then there would be famine and shortage of food in the State.

“I am appealing to IGP Adamu and the police service commission to redeploy the Oyo CP.”

Chief Adams further alleged that many of the kidnappers apprehended by the OPC and other local security operatives and handed over to the authorities have since returned to continue their criminal activities.

He said, “I want to also urge the Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, to cooperate with the IGP in ensuring that the state is safe for all and sundry because from the reports at my disposal, kidnappers are now returning to Ibarapa.

“What becomes of the police when people cannot trust them as an institution? It is unfortunate for the police to accuse the three members of our group for murder and arson after they had assisted them in apprehending Iskilu Wakili, a suspected Kidnap warlord that had been terrorizing the people of Ibarapa and its environs.

“But, we wouldn’t be discouraged in our effort. We will continue to play our roles in ensuring that our region is safe against criminal elements.”

The three OPC members; Awodele Adedigba, Dauda Kazeem, and Hassan Ramon are currently in detention on six counts of conspiracy, arson and murder.

NECO releases 2022 SSCE external results

The National Examinations Council (NECO) has released the results of the November/December 2022 Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE). Dantani Ibrahim Wushishi, the registrar of NECO, broke the news on Thursday in Minna, the capital of Niger state. The 2022 SSCE for external candidates was held from November 21 to December 21. The NECO registrar said a total of 59,124 candidates sat for the examination, with 31,316 males, representing 52.96 per cent, while 27,808, representing 47.03 per cent, were female. He said 58,012 candidates sat for the English Language with 44,162, representing 76.13 per cent, getting credit and above. According to Wushishi, the number of candidates who wrote Mathematics is 57,700, out of which 43,096, representing 74.69 per cent, got credit and above. He also disclosed that 46,825 candidates, representing 79.20%, got five credits and above — irrespective of English Language and Mathematics.
