Democracy Day: FG Declares Monday, June 14 Public Holiday

 



The federal government has officially designated Monday, June 14 as a public holiday to mark this year’s Democracy Day celebration.

The Minister of the Interior, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, made the announcement today on behalf of the Federal Government. He congratulated all Nigerians on the upcoming Democracy Day and urged all Nigerians to work together to make the country united and prosperous.

In a statement signed and released to the press by the Ministry of Interior’s Permanent Secretary, Dr Shuaib Belgore, the minister was quoted saying: “any form of agitation that threatens the unity of the country should be shunned for the good of all.”

He also stated that Nigeria would become a haven of unity, progress and most importantly, peace if all citizens embraced the tenets of brotherliness and treat their neighbours as they would want to be treated.

The statement read: “As we mark another Democracy Day in the history of our dear country, let us reflect on the efforts of our founding fathers and ensure that Nigeria remains one United and Indivisible Entity. No development can take place in an acrimonious environment.”

“With the challenges we face in Nigeria today, I see an opportunity for us not to break up or break down but to break open; open up to ourselves in truth so that we may appreciate each other, understand each other, honour each other and live together in peace and prosperity,”

He also assured all citizens that concerted efforts are being made by the federal government to secure the lives and property of all Nigerians and stabilize the economy.

“There will surely be light at the end of the tunnel,” he stated to round up his statement.
