Late Soun, Oba Jimoh Oyewumi
One year has gone like 20 seconds. Today 12th December, marked exactly one year after Soun of Ogbomosoland, Oba Oladunni Oyewumi, Ajagungbade 111, joined his ancestors on December 12, 2021 at the age of 95.
The late soun became king on 24th October 1973. His demise has left a vacuum that is yet to be filled today in Ogbomoso.
The indigenes and residents of Ogbomoso are getting worried over the continuous delay and announcement of the new monarch by the Oyo State Government.
Investigations revealed that the delay in announcing and subsequently presenting the staff of office to the new Soun was not unconnected with the alleged petitions by some of the candidates who lost out during the screening and selection process.
A source told our reporter that some of the candidates who show interest for the stool and lost out submitted petitions to the State Government, challenging the process of selection and they are awaiting a response from the government and instituted court cases.
Recalled Prince Afolabi Gandhi Laoye, American-based Redeemed Christian Church of Christ, RCCG, Pastor, was chosen as the new soun, the development generated controversy between the family, kingmakers,s and other critical stakeholders.
Investigations further revealed that Gandhi’s name had since been submitted by the Local Government authorities to the Oyo Governor, Engineer Seyi Makinde.
Governor Makinde recently said at a party function that the court cases are delaying the announcement and installation of the new Oba in the land of the valiant. He urges the family to withdraw the cases.
The governor, therefore, assured that very soon, the new king would be announced and installed when the litigations is resolved.
