The Speaker ,Oyo State House of Assembly, Hon Adebo Ogundoyin has identified political, religious and tribal sentiments as the bane of development of Nigeria since independence fifty-nine years ago.
Hon Ogundoyin said this in his message to Nigerians as the nation marks its fifty-nineth independence anniversary.
The Speaker noted that the country has remained socially, politically and economically underdeveloped because its leaders and citizens have been polarized along political, ethnic and religious lines.
While calling for the spirit of patriotism, love,selflessness and brotherhood among Nigerians, Hon Ogundoyin said all hope is not lost as the country is filled with human and material resources to enable him to lead the African continent and also attain its place of pride among committee of nations worldwide.
Hon Ogundoyin challenged leaders at all levels and citizens of the country to build on the legacies of the Nation's founding fathers stressing that Nigeria got her independence through a collective struggle and a united front.
"We need to see ourselves as one big family and look beyond political, tribal and religious affiliations as no nation can develop if its citizens are intolerant of one another and are enmeshed in extreme bigotry" The Speaker said
He commended the resilience of Nigerians especially in the face of myriad of challenges confronting the nation, and stressed that every developed nation across the globe had at one time or the other experienced difficulties in their journey to stability and prosperity.
The Speaker used the medium to particularly rejoice with the people of Oyo state on the fifty-ninth independence anniversary of the country, and appealed to them to continue to keep faith with the Government of Engr Seyi Makinde.
According to Hon Ogundoyin, the Governor is not only charting a new political course for Oyo state but he has also promised to right all the wrongs of the past Governments and ultimately put the pacesetter state on the pedestal of greatness.
He reiterated the readiness of members of the ninth Oyo state house of Assembly under his watch to support, scrutinize and serve as watchdog for all the other arms of Government in Oyo state while equally formulating laws that will enhance the living standard of the people as well as promote good governance in the state.
