There is no denying the fact that the Federal Polytechnic Ayede,Ogbomoso will improve the economy and provide employment opportunities for youth, improving the economic strength and buoyancy of Ogbomoso zone when it begins operation.
Although, There is still a big question mark hanging on the ‘approved’ Federal Polytechnic, Ayede, Ogbomoso in Oyo State.
In October 2019, the social media was agog with the ‘unofficial’ news of the ‘approval’ of a new federal institution (Polytechnic) in Ayede,Ogbomoso which was welcomed by all and sundry in Ogbomoso zone. The establishment of a federal institution is a plus, considering the goodies and developmental strides that is embedded in it.
The bill for the establishment of federal Polytechnic, Ayede was mooted in 2011 by Ex-Senator representing Oyo Central in the Senate, Senator Ayoade Adeseun (Solar) who doubled as Chairman, Senate Committee on Capital Market in the 7th Assembly.
It is important to note Ayede is a town in Ogo Oluwa Local Government, one out of five local governments in Ogbomoso zone,Oyo state. Surulere and Ogo-Oluwa local government are in Oyo Central Senatorial district while Ogbomoso North,Ogbomoso South and Oriire belong to Oyo North Senatorial District.
In the Punch Newspaper of July 22,2011, Federal Ministry of Education advertised Invitation for Tender for the Federal Polytechnic Ayede, Ogbomoso in Oyo state.
However, the Polytechnic suffered setback due to Senator Adeseun’s inability to win the reelection. No thanks, In the 8th Assembly the new Senator representing Oyo central district, Mosurat Sunmonu is from Oyo town and did nothing to actualizate the initiative and likewise the current Senator, Teslim Folarin is mute about the polytechnic.
At the onset some school of thought in the zone said it authoritatively that there is an approved Federal Polytechnic, Ayede,Ogbomoso which only awaits the presidential assent, But it is interesting to note that recently the President approved a couple of Federal institutions .
On May 14,2020, The federal government approved the establishment of six new federal institution each of the six geo-political zones of the country.According to the spokesperson for the Federal Ministry of Education, Ben Gooong, The new institutions would be located at Bauchi, Benue, Ebonyi, Osun, Sokoto, and Edo States.A letter signed by the permanent secretary in the ministry of education, Sunny Echono, said an inspection was due for May 11 to “facilitate early take-off.’
A Community leader, who craved for anonymity, expressed displeasure at the unfortunate state of Federal Polytechnic Ayede, Ogbomoso project and wondered why some prominent politicians from the zone neglect the initiative. However, the leader disclose that a top government official from Ogbomoso zone remain resolute for its actualization.
