Celebrating Adewuyi Adegbite (Adema) on His Birth Anniversary | Sunday Adepoju

On this day, I identify with you and other well meaning Nigerians, both at home and in the Diaspora, to celebrate your birth anniversary. Surely, Ogbomoso birthed so many heroes and heroines who have contributed and who are still contributing meaningfully to the country’s development.

In the past, we had many of them. Here is one of the living legacies of the ancient city of Ogbomoso. A cerebral historian and writer of high profile, Mr Folaranmi Adewuyi Adegbite has carved a nitche for himself and has shown magnificent dedication to the development of Ogbomoso and the nation called Nigeria. It is, indeed, an understatement to say that he knows his onions.

Adema, as he is fondly called, has authored a number of books and articles. His books, in fact, are historical materials that have been found useful for academic purposes and societal development. He is, no doubt, a historiographer par excellence. He has given assistance to upcoming writers and journalists in and around Ogbomoso and Nigeria as a whole. Kudos to Adema for authoring “Issues in Ogbomoso History”; “Orlando Owoh: Life, Times, Music and Messages”, a biography about the legendary musician and philosopher; “Reasoning With You”, a compendium of his articles in the Nigerian national dailies; “No Cross, No Crown: A Biography of of Rec’d Emmanuel O. Fanibe”, among others.

His articles in the national dailies are good read. From Tribune titles to other national dailies, he has written a lot. This is no exception to so many others he has written in “The Insight” as a guest columnist.

This is not his biography but I must say that, in the field of history, he has written his name in gold, especially the Yoruba classical kingdoms. His academic sojourn is commendable. He is known for a triangulation of movement from the Institute of Journalism to University of Ilorin and from there to the prestigeous University of Ibadan, studying journalism, then, history.

Please, join me in celebrating Mr Folaranmi Adewuyi Adegbite (Adema, as fondly called).

The Speaker of the 9th Oyo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Adebo Ogundoyin met the Senate President, Senator Ahmed Lawan to deliberate issues around financial autonomy for States Assembly and local governments. Joint ownership of the institution by Oyo and Osun states has culminated into protracted crises in the institution, which has had telling effects on the students, the staff and its rating as the best state university in Nigeria as well as the relationship between the owner states. Thus, the taking over of the institution by the Oyo State Government is applauded by all and sundry as a pragmatic way of engendering peace.
