For more than a year now, the presence and dominance of Terrorists and Bandits in major forests of Niger State have been confirmed by both Security agencies and State Government. There are damning reports and evidence that Terrorists have hoisted their flags in the State with hundreds of villages paying Tributes to this dreaded-men because the people have lost hope in the ability of Nigeria Government to rescue and secure them.
Ogbomoso remains the first major Southwest Town that borders the Northern Nigeria. The significance of Ogbomoso to the security of Yoruba land is very obvious. Ogbomoso to Bida Axis where terrorists have held sway is about 300km. This simply means the violent men are by our doorstep.
Looking at Ogbomoso in the anal of history, Five powerful Are Onakankanfo, Yoruba Generalissimo have emanated from the Axis defending Yoruba people against internal and external invaders. Warriors from Ogbomoso were valiant in their rigid resistance against Fulani Jihadists from the North. Various battles between Ogbomoso warriors and Fulani invaders were decisive as Ogbomoso people resisted all the attempts to penetrate Yoruba interland through the axis.
Just like it was in the past, the invaders have crossed the Niger Bridge again heading to Yoruba interland, they are ready to accomplish the mission of their great-grandfathers, can Ogbomoso resist this carnivorous invaders as usual? That is a question of concern to every prudent Yoruba man.
My movement across all the Five Local Governments in Ogbomoso has confirmed this impending danger. People have continuously noticing awkward movements of unwanted and unrecognized persons within the towns and jungles. I was in my Community few weeks ago, we watched overnight like watchmen because of the report that some Fulanis were sighted with ammunition.
This suspicion has been confirmed with recent waves of kidnapping in Ogbomoso Axis. Christopher Taiwo Bakare, a Manager of farm that belongs to late Otunba Adebayo Alao Akala was kidnapped. The Proprietor of Tana Suites, Ogbomoso, Olugbenga Owolabi and a student of LAUTECH, Miss Rachael Opadele were kidnapped and reportedly killed even after payment of ransom.
This is high time Ogbomoso elders formed synergy with Yoruba leaders to swing into actions. OPC, Vigilante, Amotekun, Agbekoya and other Yoruba sociocultural military wings should be wakened. There should be Yoruba Conference and Summits on Security. This is not a time to sleep nor slumber as Government Securities have been rendered limited in scope and action. The enemies are already with us and Ogbomoso is too important to the security of Yoruba land. A stitch in time they said saves Nine.
