Joint Security Task Force in Oyo State, Operation Burst, in collaboration with members of the newly formed Southwest security outfit, Amotekun, yesterday, ransacked the entire forest area in Surulere Local government area of Ogbomoso in search of hideouts of kidnappers and other criminals elements.
There were reports that the security personnel succeeded in making some critical arrests but yet to disclose the identity of the suspects while some of the criminals were killed in the process. Arms and ammunition were also recovered during the operation.
A hotel, which was said to be owned by a retired security agent, was angrily destroyed by the security agent. The hotel was said to be used as a meeting point by some criminals.
There are also reports that a makeshift shop by a tea vendor, popularly known as ‘Mai tea’, which criminals used as an armoury, was uncovered by the security agents.
The Commandant of Amotekun Corps in Oyo, Colonel Olayinka Adeyanju (rtd), confirmed to journalists that a clearance operation is going on in the area.
Recall that gunmen had on July 28 abducted a hotelier, Mr Olugbenga Owolabi; a final year student of LAUTECH, Rachael Opadele and killed them after collecting a N5 million ransom.
The person who took the ransom to the kidnappers escaped with injuries but the commercial motorcycle rider, who took him to the kidnappers’ hideout, Mr Idowu Ajagbe, was also killed by the criminals.
