Soun: Ogbomoso Indigenes, Residents Express Worry Over Continuous Delay, Announcement of New King

Ogbomoso indigenes and residents are airing their worries over the continuous delay in the announcement of a new monarch of the town, after the passing of the late Soun of Ogbomosoland, Oba Oladunni Oyewumi, Ajagungbade III.

According to an investigation, the delay in announcing and subsequently presenting the Staff of Office to the new Oba is not unconnected with the alleged petitions by some of the candidates who lost out during the contest.

Recall some concerned groups whose family members had lost out submitted petitions to the state government, challenging the process of selection and they are awaiting a response from the government.

It will be recalled that out of the 23 bonafide sons of Ogbomoso who jostled for the vacant stool, Prince Afolabi Ghandi Laoye, a U.S based Redeem Christian Church of Christ, RCCG, Pastor, was declared the Soun-designate by the kingmakers, a situation which generated uproar among the stakeholders family, kingmakers and other critical stakeholders.

Investigations further revealed that Ghandi’s name had since been submitted by the local government authorities to the Oyo State Governor, Engr. ‘Seyi Makinde for necessary action.

An informed top government source said, “The Governor, ‘Seyi Makinde is taking his time to ensure there is no crisis after the announcement of the new king. He knew some people are angry with the selection process and he is investigating the development.”

Some residents of the town are worried that the governor has not approved or rejected Ghandi since his name was presented to him some months back.

They stress the need for the announcement and installation of a new Oba by the Oyo state government to bring a solution to insecurity and kidnapping in the town and for development.

Recall that Mr. Christopher Taiwo Bakare male and Dr. Rasheed Oladoye male were kidnapped on the 16th and 22nd of July at Jabata and Gbede via Ogbomoso axis respectively.

Mr. Olugbenga Owolabi, Proprietor of Tana Suites Ogbomoso, and Racheal Opadele, a final year student of the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Ogbomoso who were abducted last week were killed by the kidnappers.

According to reports, the kidnappers also shot dead the Okada operator who delivered the ransom to them, while the other person is at an undisclosed place receiving treatment.
