Oyo State Governor, Engineer Seyi Makinde has promised that Oyo State Independent Electoral Commission, OYSIEC, will be constituted in the next 10 day, adding that the commission is expected to conduct election into only recognized 33 local government authorities in the state in the first quarter of 2020.
Makinde, who stated this while fielding questions from journalists and residents of the state at a live media chat broadcast on Broadcasting Corporation of Oyo State, BCOS to commemorate his administration’s 100 days in office, said that election would not be conducted in the 35 Local Council Development Areas, LCDA, created by the previous administration headed by Senator Abiola Ajimobi.
According to him, conducting election into the LCDA would amount to breaching the constitution of the nation, adding that as long as it is only 33 local government that is recognized by the constitution, election would be organized only for the 33 councils.
“In the next one and half months, preparation for the election for the local government will start. Local government will hold next quarter. Please, be patient with me on local government. I will do what is right”, he said.
