EFCC Plans To Revisit Akala, Other Former Governors' Case Files |OGBOMOSO INFO|








The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has planned to revisit the cases against 11  former governors, including Ex-Oyo governor, Adebayo Alao-Akala.

This is coming following the conclusion of the fraud case against Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, who was Abia State governor between 1999 and 2007. Mr Kalu was last week found guilty of N7.6 billion fraud and jailed for 12 years.



According to The Nation, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) held a meeting of its prosecutors and detectives to review ongoing cases against former governors.

“The meeting bordered on how to accelerate the trial of the ex-governors, especially those who have forfeited choice assets to the commission.

“The session focused on removing legal bottlenecks and a termination of frivolous applications brought up to frustrate trial,” the medium said.



Citing EFCC document, The Nation reports that some of those on the list are Senator Chimaroke Nanamani (Enugu); Peter Odili (Rivers); Saminu Turaki(Jigawa); Ayo Fayose (Ekiti); Gbenga Daniel (Ogun); Ikedi Ohakim (Imo); Sule Lamido (Jigawa); Martins Elechi (Ebonyi); Gabriel Suswam (Benue); Adebayo Alao-Akala (Oyo);  and Murtala Nyako (Adamawa).

In May 2018, the EFCC re-arraigned former governor of Oyo State, Adebayo Alao-Akala, and two others in an Oyo State High Court sitting in Ibadan over alleged N11.5bn fraud.



The other defendants are former Oyo State Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, Senator Hosea Agboola; and an Ibadan-based businessman, Femi Babalola.

NECO releases 2022 SSCE external results

The National Examinations Council (NECO) has released the results of the November/December 2022 Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE). Dantani Ibrahim Wushishi, the registrar of NECO, broke the news on Thursday in Minna, the capital of Niger state. The 2022 SSCE for external candidates was held from November 21 to December 21. The NECO registrar said a total of 59,124 candidates sat for the examination, with 31,316 males, representing 52.96 per cent, while 27,808, representing 47.03 per cent, were female. He said 58,012 candidates sat for the English Language with 44,162, representing 76.13 per cent, getting credit and above. According to Wushishi, the number of candidates who wrote Mathematics is 57,700, out of which 43,096, representing 74.69 per cent, got credit and above. He also disclosed that 46,825 candidates, representing 79.20%, got five credits and above — irrespective of English Language and Mathematics.
