Makinde Decries Low Pace Of SDGs Projects In Oyo |OGBOMOSO INFO|









The Executive Governor of Oyo State, Engr. Seyi Makinde has decry slow pace of ongoing Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) projects, saying the contractors have reneged on the timeline for all the projects. During inspection of the projects, Governor Seyi Makinde urged the contractors handling various projects to add more speed to the work.
The governor was represented by his Senior Special Assistant on SDGs, Kunle Yusuf, who led the Projects Support Unit monitoring team to some schools.The tour by officials of Oyo SDGs started the inspection tour of all the ongoing projects in Ibadan metropolis last Tuesday.
All the 13 councils where the SDGs-CGS 2015 project locations are situated were visited.He charged the projects’ consultant to be more proactive by mobilising the contractors to complete and hand over the projects over the SDG officials before the year runs out.
“My advice for the communities where the projects are sited is to see the projects as theirs. This will enable them to monitor and secure the edifices themselves by reporting any unscrupulous individual, who may want to vandalise the projects, to security agents.“I can assure the residents of Oyo that more developmental and grassroots-oriented projects will spread across the councils that make up the state,” he said.
Disclosing that the past administration failed to access the United Nations (UN) grants, he added, “The immediate-past administration in the state failed to meet up with the United Nations standard so as to access more grants. If you don’t expend the grants released on the projects completely, and the consultant couldn’t certify the projects in their reports, the United Nations and the Federal Government will not release other grants to you.
“When Governor Seyi Makinde took the mantle of leadership, instead of revoking the contracts, the governor directed the SDG office to mobilise the contractors back to site with over 30 percent mobilisation fee paid to them and strict supervision to ensure that the projects are done in line with the SDG manual. When the projects are completed and delivered, we will make our report and access more other grants for more projects,” the aide said.
